"I read a book about an African American woman..."

(Speech before the National Council of Negro Women, October, 2003.)

16. WOAH
AWD. Come on. Seriously. You can disagree with his vote on the IWR if you care to, but to equate it with racism is falt-out absurd.

I really, really hope you were attempting to make a joke there. Really.

2. that's horrible!

I cannot believe that, in a speech before the National Council of Negro Women, that Kerry would stoop to talking about a book about an African-American woman! The gall! The nerve!

Lighten up, Francis... yeesh.

5. So how many books by African American women has Dean read?
Going by the support minorities are giving him, I'd bet zero.

12. I find that odd
I've heard this about Dean before, but it sounds odd to me. Almost like he was trying too hard not to seem racist. If race was really not as issue, I would think he would have simple stated he had no preference.

15. He wanted to broaden his horizons
which seems like a good thing. Of course since Dean did it it has to be evil. Can't give the man credit for anything can you. I swear if he cured cancer tomorrow you would bitch about how the cure tasted.

13. Your joking right? We are being silly here right?
I pointed pointed out something in a Washington Post column. It was not intended to start a flame bait war. I still won't apologize to that nurse on the other thread, flame bait was not my intention.

But some he just skimmed. He's a very good reader.

He just doesn't like to get up and brag about it...

14. Any written by CDF's Marian Wright Edelman?
The founder of the Children's Defense Fund was concerned that welfare law changes would mean less money for pre-school programs like Head Start. Here's how Norman Solomon remembers what then-gov. Dean said:

"While some other Democrats angrily opposed Clinton's welfare reform, it won avid support from Dean. "Liberals like Marian Wright Edelman are wrong," he insisted. "The bill is strong on work, time limits assistance and provides adequate protection for children." Dean co-signed a letter to Clinton calling the measure "a real step forward."

7. Maybe Kerry likes the author
It isn't certain he was pandering. Although even if he was, big deal. At least he doesn't do it like dean does, every chance he gets.

10. You folks need to lighten up!
Bulletin: POLITICS IS ONE GIANT ACT OF PANDERING.

Always has been, always will be. So why all the fuss about this guy or that guy pandering to (insert favorite group, gender, ethnicity, religion or breakfast cereal)?
