Rep. Billy Tauzin May Retire, Replacements Line Up
Rep. Billy Tauzin may retire after the Louisiana Governor's race to become Head of the Motion Pictures Association of America.

Several prominent Republicans and Democrats have been talked about to replace him. Republicans seem to be lining up around failed 2003 gubernatorial candidate State Rep. Hunt Downer. Democrats have several options, including For. State Rep. Charlie Melancon or State Rep. Gary Smith.

If Kathleen Blanco is elected governor, she could schedule the special election to be held March 9, 2004, the date of the Democratic primary.

This is the second most Democratic district in Louisiana (William Jefferson's second district being the first), so we could take this seat. Louisiana has been very receptive to Democrats lately, with the recent victories of Mary Landrieu, Mitch Landrieu, and Charlie Foti.

Here's the article for anyone interested:

2. If he become the head of the
motion pictures association, expect some "Compassionate Conservatism" for Hollywood.

However, I don't think all the actors and actresses would stand for it.

3. Well
This is going to be a seat that we need to win if we want any remote chance of getting the House back.

4. why would anybody want him to be head of the Motion picture
association? but then ofcourse Jack Valenti the current head was a top aid to LBJ prior to getting this job (and holding it for almost 40 years).
