Is Kerry going hunting?

He bought a hunting license today:

Presidential candidate John Kerry said he wants to fight for more jobs in America.

Thursday morning Kerry spoke at TEC Industrial in Davenport, which repairs electrical motors.

Kerry said since the Bush Administration began, millions of manufacturing jobs have been lost. However, if Kerry were to be elected he promised more help for middle America.

"By helping people hold on to more of their tax money; that's what we have to do protect the middle class ... roll back the high-end tax-cuts of the Bush Administration that help the wealthy and invest in education and health care." Kerry said.

The Massachusetts Senator also proposed a new jobs tax credit to encourage companies to expand. After his stop in Davenport, Kerry traveled to Muscatine where he bought a hunting license.

I knew a group of hunters whose soul purpose in going hunting was to get out of the house away from the wives. They never shot at anything, just drank coffee at the camp, played cards at night, and in general just hung out. They'd do this for about four days every fall.

Then there'd be the types who get the license and never use it.

If Kerry bagged an elk I'd be impressed. It would almost make me vote for him. And I'm not talking about a tour guided hunt where some farmer has a herd of elk on his property, I'm talking about going out and wading through waist deep icy cold water at dawn in hopes of getting a sight of the prey.

14. This issue bothers me

On one hand Kerry sponsors some great legislation, but then is callous in how he talks about his hunting exploits.

19. I Must Admit

I'm not crazy about hunting. I'm happy he's not shooting people, but I always thought that animal photography was a more noble aim. Must be my bleeding heart.

My honest take is that Kerry is not taking precious time out of his schedule because of a burning need to kill fluffy animals. I imagine that he is sending a distinct signal to gun owners that his fantastic record on gun control is not going to take away their little pop gun collections.

So, in the end, I would rather him try to kill a bird or two and pass excellent legislation than let a NRA man get the nomination. Must be my pragmatic heart.
