Crazy Idea for the Convention......
Wouldn't it be priceless if during the 2004 Convention, Tony Blair showed up and publicly endorsed the Democratic candidate for President. Nominally, Britain's Labour Party is supposed to be allied with the Democratic Party, so I'm guessing the Labour leadership might be able to force Blair to do this as a sort of 'mea culpa' for the Iraq debacle. Just imagine the look on smirk's face when Tony endorses OUR candidate and hangs * to dry.

Everybody would win; Blair gets good press for finally opposing Bush while the Democratic nominee gets an endorsement from a prominent figure that many Americans trust and like.

Taking it one step further, it would be really neat if we could project a message that the world supports OUR nominee.

Canada's Paul Martin, France's Jaques Chirac, Germany's Gerhardt Schroder and others could all tape messages saying I support (insert Democratic nominee's name here) for President because America deserves better leadership(or something to that effect).

but it would never happen. If Bush wins, then they could be screwed.

2. Blair blantantly and vigorously endorsed Gore in 2000.

3. That's a brilliant idea...
I hope the DNC gets the message and works on this.

Though don't other countries generally stay out of the endorsement game in American politics?

4. No, it couldn't work
You can't have a democratic nominee who is critical of shrub's little mid-east adventure be endorsed by the lap dog that has been helping him.

6. Not likely regarding the leaders (though I would love to see it)
I do think we can hope for worldwide demonstrations of support. Much, much more than in 2000. Bush is pretty much the emblem of Anti-Americanism world-wide--the world will act to oppose him.

7. Makes no sense.
Blair has such a little poodle for Bush, that I'd consider his endorsement of the Democrat nominee to be the kiss of death.

Besides, since when does the endorsement of any foreign head of state mean anything in our elections?
