Kucinich on World AIDS Day, 12/1/03

Kucinich on World AIDS Day, 12/1/03

"The Secretary General of the United Nations has called on world leaders to aggressively combat the AIDS epidemic that is devastating Africa and making serious inroads in Asia and around the world. Kofi Annan has lamented the lack of world leadership on this issue. He is right to complain. AIDS has taken 28 million lives since 1981. That's more than the soldiers who have been killed in some of the biggest wars in human history. But, in contrast to the U.S. Pentagon budget of $400 billion plus additional hundreds of billions for particular wars, President Bush pledged only $3 billion for the fight against AIDS in his State of the Union address and then proposed only $2 billion in his budget request. Senator Dick Durbin, Illinois, introduced an amendment adding an extra $289 million and shamed the Republican leadership into supporting the measure. But this is far from sufficient." READ MORE

3. I wish these issues weren't so easy for some to ignore
Bless Kucinich for speaking up.

We're too comfortable and content for our own good. May God have mercy on our souls.

4. agreed
Kucinich has a wealth of knowledge of so many topics. He can and does address as many as possible. He truly cares about all issues.

Good point about comfort. I think that may be part of the reason Kucinich is labeled wacko left wing so often. Nobody wants their comfort level disturbed. They don't want to think about or put effort into what they may deem lesser issues. Screw comfort. This is human health we are dealing with.

5. This is so true....
the way things are going...people don't want to have to deal with anything that rocks the boat....its easier to ignore if you don't hear about it....

What is so exceptional about Dennis is his caring for ALL people....

Peace

6. It's like the saying that churches should comfort the afflicted and

afflict the comfortable! Most clergy, and most politicians, don't want to afflict the comfortable, but we don't become better people if we're allowed to pretend that the difficult issues don't exist.

Awww too bad the media told us he was unelectable!
