Newsom(Dem)-Gonzalez(Green) SF Mayor Debate available online.
posted by ebair (sp?) in another thread.

Everyone should watch this. This is the debate we should be having EVERYWHERE in the US and not just in SF. No Republicans. No overt fascism. No racism. No sexism. No overt oligopoly-protection (except that Newsom is clearly running to protect the profits of developers and landlords, and he'd be a Republican in any other city).

Notice how they argue not about whether we should help homeless people, but HOW we should help homeless people. Although Newsom is very wrong and his plan pretty much doesn't help homeless people, this is still a debate on terms that are closer to what I think the debate should be in the US.

FULL DEBATE VIDEO NOW ONLINE AT KPIX

they've got the full debate online. prety amazing that the full 1 hour plus debate is online, but that's great.

The parts I saw looked like they had the full debate dividied up into 4 video clips/parts.

Here's a link to the article and what looks like the full video:

1. Gonzalez proved himself to partisan voters with this debate...

I think it was one of the most intelligent political debates I've observed this year. Newsom seemed to be playing the role of the toned-down attack dog, while Gonzalez spent most of the debate defending himself and presenting his ideas.

Both of the candidates were likable people, and both could easily be mistaken for Democratic candidates running in a primary.
