A long-time columnist for the Chagrin Valley Times and other suburban newspapers has announced he will compete against State Representative Ed Jerse (D-Euclid) to replace Republican Congressman Steve LaTourette . Herb Hammer , 69, a Geauga County resident, is the second Democrat saying he wants to be elected an U.S. representative in Ohio's 14th Congressional district.

Hammer, 69, is a Korean War veteran, a member of the Chagrin Valley Democratic Club, worked as a union sheet metal worker for 20 years, and was also president and CEO of GLTF Products, Walton Plastics and Speedline Corp. He has written his column for 25 years.
