The General Learns to Make a Buzz
The General Learns To Make A Buzz

MANCHESTER, N.H., Dec. 4, 2003

"I'm going to do everything I can to make it as exciting, interesting
and fun as possible. I was even talking with Madonna - Madonna -
yesterday."

According to retired Gen. Wesley Clark, when a jet takes off from an
aircraft carrier, it "sags" towards the ocean as the pilot hits the
afterburner. It's a normal occurrence for fighter pilots who must
harness the short burst of energy to successfully clear the deck. And
it's exactly how Clark sees his own campaign. "We sagged, we didn't hit the waves, and now we're flying back up out
of that," Clark told C-SPAN Wednesday when he was asked whether early
glitches have slowed his campaign's momentum.

1. Clark
I just watched a rerun of his speech in NH and was very impressed with Gen. Clark. All our candidates are good and I am for Dean, but I have to say Gen. Clark, to me, comes off as very sincere. I have no doubt he would make a very good president.

2. Reminds me
"Dean and Edwards have a lot more energy, it appears, than Clark or Gephardt do," Kaiser said. "But, you know, a high energy person doesn't necessarily appeal to everybody," and Clark, she added, is "certainly very intelligent and can think on his feet."

I was thinking about this last night. Without being superficial or shallow, I think you can say some of it is about taste and style. And nobody is going to appeal to everybody.

8. A manikin doesn't appeal to everyone either
and that is what Clark reminds me of.

11. If you're seeing mannequins...
maybe you should stop looking in the mirror.

3. I have not totally made up my mind yet; there is something I find
appealing or agreeable about all of the Democratic candidates; and as stated, nobody will appeal to everybody. But Clark does really impress me more and more.
I wish there were more of a serious forum for all the candidates and that the media didn't make so much of a selection for us, buy directing questions/ignoring certain candidates, etc.
I would have liked to have heard a lot more from Sharpton, Kucinich and Mosley-Braun.

6. Agreed...
I like Clark a lot, which got me to his website (www.clark04.com) and got to take at look at his issues. It impressed me even more. With the Turnaround Tour (where he's going to give specifics) to his 10 promises regarding US forces in IRAQ-type situations, he seems to have a global view, figuratively and literally.

I've said this before, and I must do the due diligence, but I haven't gone over to the Dean website to properly acquaint myself with the Doctor.

9. There is a hint of swagger
coming back to his campaign. I heard the Exeter thing was nuts today but only third hand.

10. A 15 minute speech followed by Q&A
Edited on Fri Dec-05-03 01:57 AM by SahaleArm
Clark spent the last 1.5 hours meeting, shaking hands, and answering questions with everyone in the room. I think he'll do well in NH, a state with many independents.
