With Gore's endorsement going to Dean, I must, at long last, admit defeat. It looks like this thing is going to go to Dean, and I congratulate him, his campaign, and his supporters on that. I've still got myself solidly behind Kerry, but I just wanted to take a moment to say that when Dean picks up the party banner, which I think we can all agree is a pretty likely outcome, I will be just as solidly behind him. Might I add... Kerry 2008/2012! If for no other reason that this quote.

1. You might want to wait until a few people vote...

...first before you give up. I'm not a Kerry guy but I do think this Gore thing is getting a little over blown. If Gore gets out and campaigns hard and fund raises hard it will be a plus for Dean, but if he does little more than say "Dean is great" it won't have much of an impact.

Endorsements are only valuable it the endorser brings something along with the endorsement like a pool of potential volunteers (like the unions) a proven fundraising network, etc.

2. I don't think Dean will hold any grudges towards Kerry

But damn I hope that Kerry just stops with the senseless attacks because it only hurts him. I have a feeling that Dean might just offer positions to all the candidates in his administration. He's going to need the help of ALL of them to turn this country around. We're ALL in this together.

I'm not even a Democrat. I'm a bona-fide swing voter, registered Independent. I've been detached enough from politics for long enough to spot a sure thing when I see it. Dean is a sure thing. People should be voting for who they want in the primaries, but it's time to be united against Bush, and not each other.

8. That's right, and most of the Democratic

primaries and caucuses have proportional, not winner-take-all, delegates awarded. So every vote for every candidate will most likely count to their overall delegate count in the end. Show your true support in the primaries. (I believe the Democratic party requires proportional results, whereas the GOP allows state primaries to be winner take all, at the state's discretion).

9. Regardless of who wins...performance in primaries

Plays a big role in who speaks at the convention to a national audience.

All of the candidates would be strong voices to hear at the Democratic conventino.

10. I still think Kerry wins the nomination

somehow, someway, with Clark as VP. There are still a HUGE number of undecide voters at this point. Undecided voters tend to be more cautious, and I believe that many of them will conclude that Dean is too inexperienced, too unpredictable, and too divisive to defeat GW Bush. Dean certainly does have momentum on his side, but that is a fickle thing.

I do hope you still vote for your candidate. I love Dean and sincerely he hope he's the one to get the nomination. But I wouldn't like to be dictated to. The primaries are not over; votes have not been cast. May the best man win!

BTW, you are a class act! We should all get behind the nominee no matter what. This election is that important. And for what it's worth, that Kerry quote increased my respect for him!

12. Much respect to John Kerry

I initially support Kerry after hearing him speak on foreign affairs a year ago. I think he would be a great statesman-President. Unfortunately, his campaign has suffered some setbacks, perhaps America isn't ready or doesn't need that sort of candidate right now. In any case, if things turn out like they look they are going to (with Dean going all the way), I look forward to Kerry and Dean working together in the future.
