CONCORD - The state’s largest teachers union announced Monday night its endorsement of a Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean.
The National Education Association of New Hampshire represents more than 14,000 teachers and support staff across the state. The group cites Dean’s opposition to the federal No Child Left Behind act, his work expanding health-care coverage to children while governor of Vermont and his having balanced 11 consecutive state budgets.
The group’s executive committee has interviewed all the major candidates, said Executive Director Terry Shumaker.
The national union has allowed its state locals to make up their own minds.
