The Dean Mystery - Bill Maher
The Dean mystery - why he among the Democrats became the favorite - is: it turns out, it helps your social life. If I read the article right yesterday, the Dean campaign is basically Friendster for people who listed politics as one of their interests. Not to say that they're not sincere, but it did smack a bit of the convenient hippies of the 60s, the guys who went to the peace rally, more to meet hot chicks into freelove and bra burning, and stop a war they might have to go to, than any political quest. Again, sincere people they both also were. But everybody's hungry for love, damnit! And there's just something about being in a "crusade" together that makes the exhausted, lost-cause sex even hotter.

20. Anyone Would Be. DEAN GETS MONEY FOR NOTHING AND ....
Dean is really Bush-Lite. A selfish life, and now accollates from the nation.

John Kerry answered his nation’s call and enlisted to fight and lead men in a dubious war in Vietnam rather than let someone else die in his place. The nation gave him the Silver Star, Bronze Star and 3 Purple Hearts for his bravery, service and sacrifice.

John Kerry followed his tour of military duty with a life of service, working to end the War in which he fought and fighting to make government more accountable, to strengthen the economy, protect the environment, and improve the lives of hard-working Americans.

Howard Dean heard the call to Vietnam service and produced X-rays and a letter from his Doctor. The nation gave him a bad-back deferment and 1 year vacation on the ski-slopes of Aspen.

Like George W. Bush’s Vietnam Draft-Dodge into the Texas Air National Guard when he was “young and irresponsible,” Dr. Dean’s youthful maneuver memorializes the most shameful aspect of class and privilege in America – that the moneyed class can avoid their responsibilities and gain special advantages, yet end-up being celebrated for their success in life.

Who would not be jealous of Dr. Dean.

13. So dislike of Dean makes one a neo-con. I see.
When Dean and his cultists 'bristle at and attack'all the other Dems who want change, do the Deanites become neocons too, or is this yet another rule that only applies one way?

9. Bill Maher makes fun of all sides
If you think he is some sort of "liberal voice" you're mistaken.

I would put more trust in Shaggy and Scooby to comment on the "Dean Mystery" (whatever that is) than Bill Maher.

12. I'm getting tired of Mahers act
His mantra is EVERYTHING is ad reducto about SEX. Perhaps his hormonic overload which seems to have contributed greatly to his skewed world view is also responsible for the basic angst he suffers from that is vital to his comedy.

But the interesting thing about this POV ( wtf is Frinesdter??) is at the Meetups I attend, everyone is united not by the hots for each other, but for the notable lack of sexual interplay as we all recognize how SERIOUS a procedure this is and the ultimate effect it will have on the country. We are in this to WIN, because we reject the very premise of the pundits and the non-Deans about how it should be done.

14. He's Funny...
I like Bill although I was disappointed with his stands on a couple of things, one, he thinks anybody who resents the fact that the unelected person is in the White House is a "Whiner" ????

I like Greg Palast's take on that, when people say Get Over It, GET OVER WHAT? DEMOCRACY? No...don't get OVER it get BACK TO IT...REGIME CHANGE 2004!

And a follow up question for Bill Maher: How in the world did you ever restrain yourself from punching Anne Coulter right in her long, stupid anorexic face?

22. What Will Pres Dean be: Vermont Dean or Campaign Dean

Has anyone heard of any Vermont reporters who say that the Howard Dean of Vermont look anything like the Campaign Trail Dean.

I am a progressive with many years of effort under my belt.
I am really concerned about the rumors that Dean is not for real.

How long will it be before anyone gets acces to the Vermont papers?

17. if a DUer would have posted this
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 10:21 PM by Cocoa
it would have been locked for its fatuousness.

I guess since this is on the blog of some guy with a TV show, it'll be ok.

edit: this is a good chance to use the word Clark recently used so well to describe Bush: fatuous.

19. No Rational Explanation -- Dean's Record Sucks

Dean record show support for the NRA, the Death Penalty, and
cutting every welfare program he could find. Until his campaign
manager told him to, Dean had never protested a war.

Yet, he is the favorite? A testament to the power of laziness.

Heard Maher believe that all things being equal, you vote for the
guy that didn't dodge the draft.

28. The 60's protestors you describe
actually sound a lot more like the Kucinich supporters I have met than anyone i have met in the Dean campaign. We had a table at a rally on the 4th of July in Philly that had a lot of those kind of people, but everyone working the table was a little scared of the people around us, and most of them did not like Dean too much. At the Young Dems Convention in Buffalo, all of the people I met who seemed like that were Kucinich supporters. Some of that type initially supported Dean but have long since abandoned him for Kucinich.
