Forget soccer moms and NASCAR dads. The key voter group for 2004: female entrepreneurs.
Republican pollster Linda DiVall and Democratic pollster Celinda Lake are to release a survey today that suggests women who own small businesses can make the difference in next year's presidential election.
The study found that female small-business owners are split between the parties, with 34 percent identifying themselves as Democrats, 39 percent as Republican and 24 as independents. Lake said she found what she called surprisingly "lukewarm" support for President Bush, with respondents preferring him to the "Democratic nominee," 46 to 32 percent; 17 percent said they are undecided.
Women Impacting Public Policy, an Oklahoma-based group supporting the economic interests of female entrepreneurs, paid for the survey.
