CNN just got hoaxed on the Tenn. hostages
Apparently a crank caller went on the air live and claimed a teacher was holding the students hostage. But then they said something rude.

Silly me, I wasn't paying close attention. What did they say?

1. Something about Howard Stern
I think it's some sort of ongoing joke.

5. "performance art"?
I heard one of these asshats on the air during the first WTC bombing. CNN was trying to get information from eye-witnesses about a breaking story so this guy called in. He claimed he was in an adjacent building then started going on about Stern and farts.

This kind of stupidity doesn't say anything about how "uniinformed and easily spoofed" anyone is, just that some people are assholes.

12. WTC caller
what should they have done with the WTC caller? Send 3 producers over there to make sure he's not some retarded adoclecent or assume that in an emergency an someone claiming to be an eyewitness is telling the truth?

13. It's called tape delay
All it would have taken is a few minutes to tape his comments but no, they were too interested in instant ratings gratification. Our network media is anchored and operated by whores, pure and simple.

16. I see
so these Stern people are calling in to point out that the media should be using a tape delay in case asshats such as themselves call in crank calls? That's real productive not to mention being a self-fulfilling prophecy.

There's always been a few people out there who hoax the news media and now Stern tries to make it common place? This only goes to show that these people doing this are immature troublemakers. Its more a sad statement about civil society than it is about the media (and I do agree that the media are whores, but this kind of stupidity isn't helping).

18. I'm criticizing the media
Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 04:56 PM by sybylla
not supporting Stern, or are you like the pResident? "You're either with us or agin us."

The media are lazy whores. You haven't said anything to convince me otherwise. If they weren't, this kind of crap would never end up on the air. A phone call to verify the person is who they say they are or a tape delay would cure the problem and the Stern freaks would have no power to interfere with proper, ACCURATE and timely news coverage.

4. LMAO! I heard it too!
The announcer had just said a few things about the hostage situation, then they broke to a commercial. Then another one of those "This is CNN Breaking News" headlines came on and Kira said they have pictures and someone on the phone.

That was so funny, especially the biatch part. LOL!

15. The point is how they believe ANYTHING
The caller was introduced by the anchor as somebody from the DYERSBURG POLICE DEPT.

Jeez, how hard can it be to say, what's your number, we'll verify before putting them on the air live?

17. It's harder than that
Janks will have a number set up in the area and it will be manned by what would seem like a police station, some of these prnks has many many discussions between Janks and the victim before it ever gets to the air, they try and verify, but Janks has his bases covered, he uses voice alterers nad other tricks, he once spent 3 hours pretending to be Jim Carrey's manager and then Jim Carry himself just to get a shot at Ed McMahon to tell him "Howard Stern thinks your a big fat pig"

remember his war against Larry King ? or his crusade against Mother Angelica ? "I was wondering Mother, would you let Howard Stern light your fart ?"

Yes, it was in bad taste!

But...I can't stop laughing. I can't get it out of my head.

It took the wind right out of those CNN sails. They were being so negative all afternoon.

edit: add a word/change word

23. stern can be hilarious sometimes
Like when he was talking to a Native American porno actress and asked if her Indian name was "Shaven Beaver". It's not witty or Monty Python type humor, but who cares, his show is funny.

BTW I heard Rush has been exceptionally angry about the recall thingy being postponed, I hope that condition which caused him to get out of Vietnam doesn't act up or the studio will smell even worse.
