NBC Nightly News Brian Williams thinks Limbaugh should get more credit

Brian Williams, who replaced Tom Brokaw as anchor and managing editor of NBC's Nightly News on December 2, 2004, said in an interview with C-SPAN founder, president, and CEO Brian Lamb: "it's my duty to listen to Rush" Limbaugh and that "Rush has actually yet to get the credit he is due."

From the December 26, 2004, interview:

WILLIAMS: I do listen to Rush. I listen to it from a radio in my office, or depending on my day, if I'm in the car, I will listen to Rush. And he will tell you I've been listening for years. I think it's my duty to listen to Rush. I think Rush has actually yet to get the credit he is due, because his audience for so many years felt they were in the wilderness of this country. No one was talking to them.

Rush said to millions of Americans, you have a home. Come with me. For three hours a day you can listen and hear the like-minded calling in from across the country, and I'll read to you things perhaps you didn't see that are out there. I think Rush gave birth to the FOX News Channel. I think Rush helped to give birth to a movement. I think he played his part in the Contract with America. So I hope he gets his due as a broadcaster.

DUring the debates, kerry correctly stated that * underfunded NCLB. Leter, Williams said that was incorrect because the Education Department has more money than ever.

First off... huh? And beside, even if the Education Department has more money, 100% of it doesn't go into NCLB. It is an undeniable fact that NCLB is not funded and is, as it turns out, a loophole written on purpose to gut the public school system and turn education inot a private business. I realize education is a business, but in some rare places, a child may still receive a free education... until * is done with them.

he is a RWer so I certainly wasn't happy to see him take over for Brokaw.

Williams, Chris Matthews and a few other pundits were so vicious discussing Gore's Convention speech on the night Gore gave it in 2000 that I couldn't believe it. He is a total asshole.

I once sat in on an interview Wiliams had with one of our speakers at a national event. He impressed me as being very superficial and into himself.

It was obvious that he sits under a sunlamp for two hours day. One of these days he's gonna wake up looking like a dried up turd and he'll lose his job because he won't be the pretty boy anymore.

"Credit" is not the right word. Obviously, Williams is a fool for making these statements, but the one thing I will say is that Rush is more "important" than people often want to believe....just not in a good way. I think too often people write him off as a crackpot, as they do with the Michael Savages and Ann Coulters of the world, and don't realize that, as Williams notes, there is a BIG segment of the country that gets off on this garbage, turns out to vote, and does honestly change the complexion of this country for worse. Obviously, I am no fan of Limbaugh, but the one thing I'll agree with Williams about is that he is powerful. In fact, he is way too powerful...and we all need to treat him as the dangerous menace that he is.

19. Fits with the newscasts

every night. NBC Nightly News has shifted even more to the right after Brokaw left.

Two examples were the week before the Coriniation, broadcasting from both Pittsburgh and St. Paul. The broadcasts were spun as blue states/cities now purple and narrowly went for Kerry but will be all red eventually.

Limbaugh is an entertainer, not a journalist. That takes away lots of credibility to try to focus a broadcast one way.

I expect GE is quite happy.

Rush is taking this country down the road to Fascism with his lies and hatred. None of what he says has any relation to reality, so he has to persuade his listeners to listen to him INSTEAD of reality. So Rush has to convice his listeners not to listen to any newscast but RW ones.

To keep people from hearing the news, Rush convinces his listeners that everything on the news is a lie from a liberal plot. So we have guys like Williams who tell the world Rush is right. Williams is essentially saying the Rush is correct about him being part of a leftwing plot.

Since nothing is done to stop him, many Americans are now turning away from network news to listen to liars like Rush. It has to be hurting network revenue. By any standards of morals or commercial competion the networks should be keeping the public informed of all the lies Rush is telling..and show proof.

Likely, what Williams is saying is that Rush has had a major impact on the media in general. Obviously, the guy (though he is a drug-addicted scumbag) has been a major force in radio over the past decade or two. The fat prick has influenced the national agenda, fer cryin' out loud. Damn right we should be paying attention. And I certainly think he should be given credit for that.

Perhaps we should pay attention to what El Drugbo is saying. Nice to know what the enemy is up to. I don't think Williams is stupid enough to paint himself into a freeper trap. I assume he was just acknowledging Rush's influence on media and our country.

Other than that, I could really give a shit about Brian Williams.
