WASHINGTON - In an attempt to compete with al-Jazeera and other Arab news channels, the Bush administration expects to start its own round-the-clock Arab-language satellite television network before year's end.

An official announcement Thursday said the network will broadcast "accurate, timely and relevant news and information" about the Arab world and the United States.
