I met reporter Helen Thomas at an airport this week. Very cool lady.

I saw her at an airport gate in Oakland this week and just had to stop and chat a few minutes with her, mostly eye-rolling commiseration about W.'s religious war and the plight of the First Amendment. I carry a small copy of the US Constitution when I travel and I asked her to sign it for me. It was really inspiring to meet a journalist who's been discomfiting the comfortable for so many decades. She was a very sweet and approachable lady.

I emailed her once and she sent a personal reply, directly relating to the issues I spoke about. The only other journalist I know that has done that Is Bill Press and Aaron Brown.
