Rush, Opiates and Conservative Media Spin
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 01:13 AM by Homer12
So far here are a few of my observations:

1) He admitted he was wrong and is getting help for his addiction (the 3rd time mind you), with of course Bill Clinton comments. So he's off the Hook. All is forgiven

2) He's not a hypocrite because Rush didn't hurt anyone with his addiction. Those things he has said about drug addicts are just about the addicts that hurt people.

3) No, they are perscription drugs. (This is the funniest one becuase usually you need a perscription to take opiates. And you don't get a perscription in a zip-lock bag with a 100 plus pills.)

It's pretty clear that when you buy drugs on the black market that they are illegal and narcotic opiates, if not legally obtained with a perscription, then Rush broke the law by buying them from a dealer.

It's also showing that if this is his third attempt to detox and get proffessional help (I'm not saying it's easy to beat a drug addiction), that the impetus for this third time must be the fact that he got caught.

Its also clear that he is a hypocrite by the things he has said in the past, and now he must be held responsiable for what he has said.

Is he really taking responsability for his actions, or is it becuase he got caught. Even if he finally truthfully(?) is taking personal responsabality for his actions, it still is no reason to spin his hypocrisy out of existance.

The arguments being made in defense of Rush L's. Behavior and actions are pretty weak.

Maybe, he can free himself from his addiction to lying and manipulating his listeners, but I don't have much hope for that happening.

2. telling lies for cash
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 01:21 AM by NJCher
Yep. I am struck by how many times he used the term "prescription drugs" when it is not even relevant here, as you pointed out above. He's nothing more than an out-and-out street junkie; no he's worse than that because he sold out his country to tell lies on the radio for cash. So stop already with the sanctimonious crap about a spinal injury. I seriously doubt it: if he were in fact in pain, why wouldn't his original doctor correct the surgery and alleviate the pain with a legitimate prescription? He's got all the damn money in the world, so this tale doesn't wash with me.

Furthermore, the amount of time that has lapsed between this news and his announcement makes me very suspicious that he and he PR people were in the back room desperately spinning up a yarn. And this is the best they can do? Pathetic.

I really liked what you said about how this shows he is a hypocrite and he must be held responsible for what he's said in the past. Any ideas on how to do that? Even if we know he won't take responsibility, we can still demand that he do so.

Cher

4. Check out CNN.com
Media far and wide has spun this as "addiction to prescription drugs". The CNN website headlines "Limbaugh says he's hooked on pain pills." There is a big difference and CNN caught it.

5. He implied that he had a prescription for all
the pills he was taking. Keep in mind that marijuana is a prescription drug in many countries. People are prosecuted for taking oxycontin in this country, and Rush should get the same justice as everyone else.

4) How can anybody hate Rush? I mean to disagree with him is okay, but to dislike a drug addict, Where's the compassion?

-Yep, This is fresh, some Libertarian Pseudo-conservative named Wess ?(something), on WTMJ (WGOP also works) AM radio in Milwaukee is using this spin to get ... "off the subject" ... that Rush is a hypocrite and may have commited a felony in buying illegal opiates.

Seems that when conservatives are doped up and addicts they deserve compassion more than anyone else.

I wonder if poor non-white drug addicts are given this compassion also?

I love the double standard, it it so refreshing to see conservative principles work so well.
