A caller said to Shultz about killing defenseless animals. Shitz responded, "Animals are not defenseless. I'm a hunter" and hung up on the guy.

I'd like to see him back up his words with facts. Takes a macho guy to blow the brains out of an animal who can't fight back!

9. Last week, on vacation, the place we stayed at had "catch-and-release"

fishing. My twelve-year-old daughter wanted to try this out, so at $4.00 per half-hour, we rented a bamboo pole with a non-barbed hook that pops out of the fish's mouth pretty easily, a dish of cut-up frankfurter for bait, and a pretty tightly-stocked fishin' hole, full of little fishes about four inches long.

Within moments of her hook's first dip in the water, she got a strike. The fish then swam under the dock, and the games-keeper had to cut the line. My daughter was worried that the fish was hurt, what with having a hook in it mouth and all. I explained that fishing was all about hooking a fish, except in "real" fishing, you get to actually keep the fish.

"...and the fish die?"

"That's what fishing is. I though you knew that."

We spent the rest of our half-hour tossing bait into the fishin' hole, feeding the fish little frankfurter bits, the bamboo fishing pole safely tucked away on the dock.

She's such a little sweetie that way.

Nothing except what the the bear takes into the cage. Doesn't that sound fair to you?

I'd bet 99% of the macho hunters who have killed wouldn't get into a cage with a racoon! Hunters are the same as Abrams, Delay, Rove, Bush, Cheney, Lott, Hastert... Macho when you send other citizens' children to die for your profit. They'd never do it one on one or even with 1000 times more equipment, training, and support than the adversary.

I don't mind hunters. Although, I believe if you hunt and kill it, you've got to eat it. There is a reason for hunting, it called thinning the herd. I know, I know, some will argue against it, but if the group gets too big, they will starve to death. I'd rather see them killed and eaten than dying a slow death with starvation. And, let me tell you deer can cause a LOT of damage. One hit me while I was driving, and no, I didn't hit him, he jumped in front of my right front headlight. Smashed in the headlight enough to crinkle the fender and part of the hood, set off both air bags and the car was declared totaled.

So, maybe they aren't defenseless.....

the world gone by destroyed by Republicans and American Corporations (run by Repukes type people.) Back before everything in the world has become/near extinct except cockroaches, ants, flys, and repukelicans. Now-a-days you are certifiably sick and twisted in the brain to be murdering animals.

Why don't they set up in Corporate Butcher Factories the ability for Americans to murder chickens, cows, pigs...?

but I do think you are little over the top. Most of you non-hunters happily eat chicken and hamburger and every time you do you help pull a 'defenseless' animal through the processing plants.

But that's ok... you didn't do it did you. You paid to have it done.

Defenseless is a chicken in a cage all it's life. Defenseless is a cow hanging upside down with it's throat cut so that it can be your Big Mac.

Fight the hunter and eat tonight at Burger King.

But have heart. If our D- college student can "learn" to murder there is hope for all the children of the world to learn to murder! It's just like the alcohol and tobacco companies wish.

18. I agree that animals are not defenseless if you attempt to take

them on with your bare hands. As far as sports fishing, I clean and eat what I catch. I do not do any hunting of sorts, but I do finish the steak on my plate. Having been in places were the wildlife can kill you (by the way I was armed with a camera and a fishing pole), one needs to be careful not to do something stupid like being away from the campgrounds at dawn or dusk (this is when predators do their serious hunting).

I also need to say that not all hunting is accomplished with a gun. Deer hunting in the Sierra Nevada's with bow and arrow is allowed three weeks out of the year and you can only kill the bucks only. Also I should mention that you cannot leave the kill there to rot.
