http://www.technologyreview.com/Infotech/19845/page1/On 9/11, I was walking over the 59th Street bridge with about a million
other people trying to get *out* of Manhattan; I definitely saw this guy
Hockenberry (who happens to be a wheelchair-bound paraplegic and therefore
very easily identifiable) rolling himself back in to Manhattan, the only
civie I saw that day trying to get back in to the city. He's a dedicated
and extremely competent, serious journalist. That makes him, sadly, one
of a dying breed.
Anyway, it's the best article on the degeneration of our corporate
media, its complicity with the current administration, dedication to the
bottom line at the expense of service to the public, and what the
implications of the newer technologies are for our traditional media
'gatekeepers' that I've read in a good long while.
