Fox & Friends promotes global warming deniers' conference
Source: Raw Story

Fox News believes the "other side" of the global warming debate hasn't received enough attention and is determined to repair the omission.

"Despite it being bitterly cold outside in the northern plains, we hear a lot about global warming," began Steve Doocy of Fox & Friends. "Is there another side to this story? Many scientists would say yes, but most media outlets -- the mainstream media -- only cover Al Gore's 'Earth has a fever' perspective."

Dan Gainor, director of the Business and Media Institute, joined Doocy and Brian Kilmeade to tell them about the "International Conference on Climate Change" currently being held in New York, which "proves that the consensus theory that Al Gore's been pushing, that the mainstream media have been pushing for years -- it's all bogus."

Doocy suggested that the warming observed over the last century could be just "a big cycle" and that "this is the worst winter in some parts of America and around the world and perhaps we should be worried now about global cooling."

5. Get all the nuts together in one forum
Get it all on tape too because boy are they gonna look stupid when sea levels rise. And the Gulf Stream shuts down. And all hell breaks loose.

Even then they'll deny human impact, I suppose.

6. Good idea. We should form a registry of the people. Get them to sign
statements that they believe there is no problem. Could be useful later when we file a $142,000,000,000,000 law suit.

7. Again, we're seeing the idiocy of the
all arguments are equal and should receive equal treatment. This is a fallacy. Fox News in particular uses this to promote rightwing talking points. Intelligent design is not science. It's not an equal argument. The theory of evolution is based on scientific fact, not theology. They're not the same.
But under the guise of "fair and balanced", Fox insists that both sides, even when lopsided, get equal treatment. This is what you're referencing here regarding global warming. People will believe there is a viable, and equal, "other side". There is not. The "other side" is based on political science, not climate change scientific fact.
Global warming science has over 2000 scientists with international reputations. The "other side" has a couple of psuedo-scientists who are heavily paid to expouse nonsense. It's the swiftboating, liars for hire, of the right.

11. FNN is great...
for laughs. What a bunch of fools- they are so hell-bent on trying to be correct, it is as if it has caused their brains to lock up and become equivalent to an abandoned doghouse. Oh...wait..duh. That is it, they want to be right, but because they are so far off on this, they've had to resort to closemindedness (hmmm...cavemen?) to factual data that is supported by a LARGE majority of the sceientific community. FNN...I tune in occassionally for a laugh...they are so "certain" about everything, their brains have become irrelevant and have ceased to function. Tragic.

14. Some help
My husband has long held the view that global warming is heliocentric. He told me two years ago that we'd see statistically significant cooling within the next four years, and has recently reminded me of that prediction. It appears that we actually have seen significant cooling within the last 12 months, Global Temperature Anomalies.

I'm a lot less scientifically literate, so I ask for help here. Does this mean anything? Is there a good refutation, especially one intended for a layman.

Thanks,

R. Garrett

16. It's a 3 card monte
A) January of 2007 was by far the warmest ever recorded, thus by comparison January 2008 looks cool' but is actually in the top 25 warmest Januarys ever recorded.

You can view the data at NASA yourself:
GLOBAL Temperature Anomalies in .01 C base period: 1951-1980

January 2003 79
January 2004 61
January 2005 86
January 2006 56
January 2007 109
January 2008 31

http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/tabledata/GLB.Ts.txt

B) We're in the midst of a very strong La Nina

C) Cherry-picking an individual data point out of aggregate time series is fundamentally dishonest use of stats

Weather Channel Founder Blasts Network; Claims It Is 'Telling Us What to Think'

The Weather Channel has lost its way, according to John Coleman, who founded the channel in 1982.

Coleman told an audience at the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change on March 3 in New York that he is highly critical of global warming alarmism.

snip
The Weather Channel has been an outlet for global warming alarmism. In December 2006, The Weather Channel’s Heidi Cullen argued on her blog that weathercasters who had doubts about human influence on global warming should be punished with decertification by the American Meteorological Society.

Coleman also told the audience his strategy for exposing what he called “the fraud of global warming.” He advocated suing those who sell carbon credits, which would force global warming alarmists to give a more honest account of the policies they propose.
