5. I don't get Matthews

He utters so many outrageous statements. What is this one supposed to mean? I understand it on the surface, but as someone who grew up in PA (like Matthews) I really disagree. People are way more sophisticated than Matthews imagines. He's like the David Brooks of the lightweight centrist crowd in terms of making facile generalizations. I wish I knew more about psychology--there seems to be some real gold there with Matthews.
