I have noticed in the past that MSNBC cOUNTDOWN refuses to discuss Obama racism and sexism, except to excuse it. I guess MSNBC has determined that discussion of the above hurts Obama - so they will not play the video of Wright speaking. Keith Olbermann does have his (pro-Obama) standards.
Indeed I recall how pleased Countdown was when Obama went beyond simply denying sexism in the campaign to promoting it. Consider the radio spot he ran in Mississippi reminding voters that Clinton had once criticized the state for its treatment of women. Obama invited Mississippi voters to take her comment as an insult to their state pride. Keith thought that was a great move.
But it is the Rev Wright that revels more about Obama - and Kieth Olbermann. Rev Wright married Barack Obama and his wife. baptized both of his daughters. and is the person who Obama credits Wright with leading him to Jesus. He has sat under Wright's teaching on morality, religion, race and politics for 20 years, but claims it is irrelevant to his campaign for the highest office in the land - And he has defended Wright during the Campaign with the campaign calling questions about Wright personal attacks or racial attacks. Now this week he tosses Wright over the side.
Here is the short ABC news video summary of Rev Wright is here
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4443230 and another copy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP2K4Lhas2o&feature=related that includes his comments this week about Wright and rejected Wrights views. These speeches have been for sale by his Church on DVD's for a long time, but Obama says he heard them for the first time last week. Here is Obama praising Wright June 2007
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpzHQ_PC1uI I wonder - if your pastor's sermons dripped hatred for black people as a race and equated black people with devils, would that be grounds to question your views on racism? Suppose your pastor said from the pulpit that black people are responsible for all America's problems? Suppose you attended that church, under that teaching, for 20 years or more? Would that make you a racist? If not, shouldn't the issue of racism at least be called into question?
Obama dismisses criticisms by saying he doesn't always agree with his pastor. On the other hand, he said at a campaign appearance that, "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial." ??????
He said that his pastor is "like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with." But his new statement does not tell us specifically what Obama agrees with and what he doesn't agree with. Some beliefs espoused by his pastor could radically impact what he does as president.
Does Obama agree with the 2003 sermon: ""The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people ...God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."
Or does Obama believe 9/11 was a justified attack on the US as in this statement in the sermon a week after 9/11 listing the reasons for his congregation to consider the attacks justified "We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.....We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost."
So we now know what Obama feels is not "particularly controversial"? - stuff that just "sounds like he was trying to be provocative" as Obama told a New York Times reporter.
The campaign released a statement about Wright and Obama a while back right after the ABC video was aired - "Sen. Obama has said repeatedly that personal attacks such as this have no place in this campaign or our politics, whether they're offered from a platform at a rally or the pulpit of a church. Sen. Obama does not think of the pastor of his church in political terms. Like a member of his family, there are things he says with which Sen. Obama deeply disagrees. But now that he is retired, that doesn't detract from Sen. Obama's affection for Rev. Wright or his appreciation for the good works he has done."
Of course One of the reasons there are as many denominations and independent Churches within Christianity as there are is because people tend to congregate with like-minded believers under the teaching of a like-minded pastor - the comment by Obama that he goes to a church where he disagrees with the Pastor's sermons every Sunday. while calling him a good friend and mentor, does strain our credulity.
Indeed now Obama, who sat in those pews for 20 years, denies hearing this kind of stuff. If you look at the church website, they are more concerned with Africa than the Kingdom of GOD. While Obama says he never noticed, these speeches have been for sale by his Church on DVD's for a long time
Obama tells the media about Wright
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/cityregion/s_557231.html Q: What about this particular statement?
A: Obviously, I disagree with that. Here is what happens when you just cherry-pick statements from a guy who had a 40-year career as a pastor. There are times when people say things that are just wrong. But I think it’s important to judge me on what I’ve said in the past and what I believe.
Someone needs to explain how the following are just cherry-pick statements:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120545277093135111.html?mod=opinion_main_commentariesIn a speech made at Howard University in January 2006, he offered the following conspiracy theory:
Per the link above "Mr. Wright said: “We started the AIDS virus . . . We are only able to maintain our level of living by making sure that Third World people live in grinding poverty. . . .”
I should note that MSNBC has determined that discussion of the above hurts Obama - so they will not play the video of Wright speaking. Keith Olberman does have his (pro-Obama) standards. But I expect we will see these videos in the fall via the GOP. I wonder how Obama's poll numbers will hold up then.
