May Ratings: MSNBC's Big Prime Time Gains

MSNBC grew 75% in the weekday prime time A25-54 demo and 61% in Total Viewers during May 2008 versus May 2007. Much of that was helped by Countdown with Keith Olbermann, which finished in second place in both categories at 8pmET (FNC's O'Reilly Factor finished first).

Also, Hardball with Chris Matthews finished in second place at 7pmET for the month for the first time since February 2006.

Year-to-year, Race for the White House saw increases at 6pmET of 189% in the demo and 174% in Total Viewers. Verdict with Dan Abrams at 9pmET was up 73% in the demo and 54% in Total Viewers.

Morning Joe had its best performance to date in May, up 67% in the demo and 91% in Total Viewers from last year.

2. Get some of that crappy mid-day news off the air and put Rachel Maddow on.
Late afternoon slot....and have Pat Buchanon forced to co-anchor with a gag in his mouth.

3. Good to hear
I think MSNBC has a good mix of people - Republicans, Liberals, and people that take on everyone.

4. Hence all the criticism about MSNBC lately by the other mainstream media for "leaning left".

5. Yep. Those soaring ratings are just too much for some people to take.
Time was when they could laugh away Keith Olbermann by telling themselves "Nobody watches his show" (although they expended far too much time and energy saying that about someone whose show "nobody" watched). Now they can't say that anymore, and they're skeered. From little Howie Kurtz (a wolf in sheep's clothing if there ever was one) to those who are deranged about Hillary to the Fox nuts.
