Was listening to an "on again, off again" RWish radio guy on the way home today,

and he and his cohorts were all "USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!" about the Olympics ...

One person called in and worded it badly ... I think his point was that the USA is not the Number 1 in sports that the RWers are dying to portray ... (Michael Phelps' teammate was able to shut up the Frenchie ... I guess it wasn't MP's performance, since the teammate had to come from behind to beat the Frenchie, right?) but the caller said "We're not the greatest ..."

Well, the Program Director/assistant/flunky was saying something to the effect of "I don't even know which event I was watching, but I got goosebumps when our flag went up and our National Anthem was played!" (WTF? He was so proud, and he couldn't remember what event he was so f*cking proud of???)

Well, that brought out all the "YOU F*CKING LIBERALS ALL HATE AMERICA, LEAVE THE F*CKING COUNTRY!" types.

And then, I thought about something ... about Nationalistic pride, and the Olympics ...

1936 ... Hitler was hosting the Olympics in Berlin. The Aryan pride was on the line, and Jesse Owens fouled twice in the long jump.

German athlete Luz Long advised Owens on what to do to avoid fouling a third time and being out of the event. Owens completed the third jump and went on and won the gold.

After the event, Luz Long embraced the BLACK (read: inferior race, according to Hitler and the Aryans) Owens, and joyfully shouted "JAZZY OWENZ! JAZZY OWENZ! JAZZY OWENZ!" in the TRUE Olympic spirit ... that the best athletes were there ... not just the "best countries".

My opinion, the "assistant" at the radio station probably would have had Luz Long taken away and a bullet placed in his skull ... for not being "nationalistic" enough ...
