WOW. I never thought I'd say this but; F*CK RACHEL MADDOW! I know, really.
Quite bizarre feeling I'm going through right now. I don't think I've ever revered someone then did an emotional 180 as fast as I just did. Normally Rachel Maddow is perhaps one of the most intellectual, insightful, rational, informative, and mindful pundits on television but tonight I saw her do, ironically, one of the most irresponsible, reckless, and potentially damaging segments I have ever seen.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#30079323

She does a segment revealing one of the many Fox-fear-induced nutjobs on youtube that uploaded a video implying Barak Obama is advocating satanic worship by replaying the audio from his speeches backwards. One question; one word for Rachel Maddow.... WHY?!?!?!??!?!?!? Most of us know that these people are deranged pseudo-Christians that wouldn't know how to follow the true teachings of Christ if they slapped them in the face AND most of us know that this is beyond nonsense but what about those that take this shit seriously -WHICH SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY DO.

Think about the potential damage this has done; Maddow has taken a member from the fearfully confused and angry cesspool on youtube and brought them into NATIONAL light. Think about the nutjobs who actually act on this garbage and the Maddow show just gave them a national platform. Thanks Rach. SHAME-ON-YOU.

4. Did she present it so as to make it a source of ridicule by exposing its delusional basis?
If so, perhaps some good will come of it. I didn't see the piece.

12. It was a very funny piece of humor.
To show the stupidity of it, she had many people, herself included, saying weird things when played backwards. I saw nothing to be outraged about.

16. I agree, it is a very bad idea to speak with sarcasm on that topic.
It is more then reckless and irresponsible. It is a very sad thing.

It should be noted that where President Obama has said he is Christian, Rachel has not mentioned if she follows any faith. And the words spoken by her are not the words spoken by President Obama in any of the comments I have seen him say on TV. Now people do not have to say what faith they follow, many people have there faith close to there heart and it is a personal matter. But from her statements, I can only assume she simply does not believe in spiritual reality.

I would guess she thinks spirituality is some silly thing or a game, and in that she is vulnerable to saying things like that. Not sure what it means for politics, or the viewers of her show. But it was fingernails on a chalk board hearing her say that bit.

Sarcasm sometimes is a way for other voices to speak out, and in that her comments were, well they were bad. And even if you don't see things the same way as me, there are millions that will see that and believe the words she said. It was a heavy hit by darkness that piece was. Beyond reprehensible.

I guess we all make mistakes, and I have to guess she really doesn't even know what I mean by much of this.

I don't think she has been paying attention.

20. Its not my problem either, but I agree with the OP. Since it was really stupid
Edited on Tue Apr-07-09 03:00 AM by RandomThoughts
I find it sad. It comes down to a basic belief issue. I have different views then Christians on the right, and I am not perfect, just like the right wing Christians are not perfect. Being Christian is not about always being right, or being better then others. But if you see things the way I do, you realize it was at the least a dumb thing to do, and more likely even more of a bad thing.

If her intent was to expose a small group that takes small things out of context, or through 'law of large numbers' paints information out of perspective, she could have done that without making overtures to a spiritual entity that millions think is a really bad thing to do.

I understand there are people who do not have the same experiences and do not believe as Christians do, and even many Christians believe differently. But can you understand that her action did not expose the people that made the youtube clip, instead, to millions of people that will see what she said, it exposed her affiliation and belief.

But even that is good, if that was the case. Best to know where people stand. But it is not helpful to her, or the causes she advocates.

You don't have to believe it to understand that.

Many people assume all Christians are like a small vocal group on the right, many people feel all Christians judge them, and that makes them angry. Thinking all Christians are nut jobs, or not understanding that people will see that differently then a non believer will see it, is... well its sad. She must literally not care what a single Christian thinks about President Obama or her show. Or any Muslims either for that matter.

To be more clear, her advocacy in her statements did not comment on people taking 'law of large numbers' and manufacturing a smear on President Obama, her comment was against all people that believe evil exist, and call the label or name for that evil Satan.

Her actions say there is no spirituality as seen by almost all Christians. What she did was directly say she thinks all Christians are wrong, and she did that by saying the worst thing a person that believes in Christianity could imagine, she spoke directly as if she or her group of people support that evil.

I did not know her platform included directly refuting the entire religion of Christianity by openly saying what any Christian would cringe and think was very bad. But she has the right to speak as she wants, but its still either dumb, or far worse.

Note: It is possible one of her staff, or somebody that helps her choose her information is actually working against her, or trying to help the right, and used her lack of belief, or possible anger at some who have religious beliefs to destroy her credibility with almost any Christian, and I would guess also many Muslims.

24. You extrapolated all that from the video segment?
Edited on Tue Apr-07-09 03:33 PM by Garbo 2004
She made "overtures" to Satan? "Her comment was against all people that believe evil exist?" She said there is no spirituality, "all Christians are wrong" and refuted "the entire religion of Christianity?"

I rewatched the segment to make sure I hadn't missed her "advocacy" of evil and saying she thinks "all Christians are wrong." Nope, didn't miss it because she didn't do, say or imply the things you assert she did.

What the video and her comments do support is the idea that playing audio backwards and asserting that "secret messages" are revealed is ridiculous. Whether it's done to find "Paul is dead" or to provide "evidence" of anything. (And playing selected audio backwards to claim someone is serving Satan or is the AntiChrist is not a tenet or practice of Christianity. So the segment was not an attack on Christianity, although you appear to conclude that it was.)

25. There is a point you are missing
Edited on Tue Apr-07-09 05:12 PM by RandomThoughts
It is a point from a different perspective. From that perspective, people are responsible for their words, and even in sarcasm, words like she said have meaning to what the individual that speaks them mean. Many people will see it that way.

I understand she meant it as sarcasm, but there are millions that when they see that clip, will see what she said, not the sarcasm. I understand many have a different point of view. But do you understand many will see that, and think it was really bad.

And from a certain point of view, her ability, or choice to say those things, says she either has no respect or has no understanding of those beliefs at all, by being able to say the worst things as viewed by those religions. It is possible she doesn't 'get' the POV I am speaking about. And I am not saying she should believe any certain way, she is free to speak as she wants, what I am trying to explain, is it was dumb at the least. And she should understand how many people will see her comments.

I am repeating myself over and over, so you can try and understand this POV that is a different POV then many people have.

Many Christians and even many Muslims, who heard a person say that, would immediately think it was inspired by evil.

This may not make sense, but what she directly said, although with sarcasm, requires either a lack of knowledge of how many people of religion think and feel about how evil tries to do some things, or a lack of knowledge of how many people of religion think evil tries to work through people, or not caring what many people of religion think.

At a minimum, weather the many Muslims or Christians that would dislike her comments are correct is not the point of this post, the point is she has no concept of how saying those things are so bad to many people with belief in those POVs.

I understand many may not see it as a bad choice, the point I am trying to explain is how many people may see her statements.

26. Maddow is not a serious show, by design. She's not a trained newsperson.
Her career is that of a talk show host, and morning show host on a small
station. No training in news, journalism, or the news business.

Her show is to be 'fun' not serious.
