Mellon-Scaife Foundation. This creates the illusion of popularity. The books that aren't sold through this foundation to radical-right groups for re-sale/give away to their members are stored in a warehouse. This is not to say that some individuals don't actually go to a store to buy the book.
Take a look at the NYT best seller list. Find a rightie rag on the list, and you will no doubt see an "b" in the listing. This designation means that the sales figures include bulk sales.
