Phoenix - 1950s - comedian George Gobel - 'Alaikim Salaam' |
|
I was living in Phoenix in the mid 1950’s when the popular comedian, George Gobel, was the star personality at the grand opening of an Arabian style resort in the valley. He used the Arabic words “Alaikum Salaam” in a TV commercial advertising the resort.
I will never forget them and they instantly became the fashionable “talk of the town” greeting to everyone. How times have changed!!!

"The World is a tuxedo and I'm a pair of brown shoes." On Carson?
One of the best lines I've ever heard...
Next to Tom Waites "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, rather then a frontal lobotomy."
