"I think he was the most talented radio personality of my entire generation," she said. Letterman asked what the radio show was like.

Maddow said that the show had been "incredibly performative...he inhabited all these different characters, he would do all these voices, it was very entertaining, really funny, really fast-paced, very unpredictable, surprising, very good."

Now that Beck has a television show, she said, "He mostly just talks about himself and it's not as fun. But when he was on the radio, before he got on TV, he was great."

1. Is she confusing Beck with Phil Hendrie?

He used to do all those characters and for a time was carried on some AAR affiliates... Granted I didn't like him either (he's also rather RW). Granted I have always flipped the dial on Beck or any of his ilck, but I don't recall his show being as she describes. Anyone?

It was carried by KOA radio later at night, maybe on the weekend.

5. I remember the old AAR affiliate in Boulder, AM 760 also carrying

it for a while... also late at night. The skits sort of diverted attention from what he was saying, but the guy was spewing RW crapola in most cases.

Normally I agree with R. Maddow, but this is awful. I am from Tampa, where Glenn beck got his first real start on 970-WFLA. He did a variant on the "Morning Zoo" that was God-awful, and this was the same station that put "Bubba the love Sponge" on the map. He made Bubba look like a genius. He would do skits involving FAKE strip joints to get people angry, having these strip joints do fake commercials comparing tenderloin to "tender loins."

Now, I am someone that does not mind offensive stuff, indeed, I sincerely believe that when the dust settles, the artists that did the most good were those that were not afraid to piss people off, especially as people use being "offended" as a cover for censorship. However, Glenn was a HACK.
