Rumor back home is that there have been some spectacular "defeats" that have not made the show or the media.

I have never seen any criminal violations. The bounty hunter business has some leeway when it comes to battery and even entry into residences. They dance on the line, I've not seen them cross it. I also danced on the line for many years without crossing it.

Now those 2 repo shows...that's another story...they have to be put-ons or those guys would go to jail.

19. I saw one of the pack assault a property owner who got into it verbally with with Dog's wife

and told them to leave. Entered property without permission and without meeting the threshold for forced entry, manhandled people are other things that come to mind. I assume they are getting releases and paying some of the people that end up on the show. They are not all that popular in Hawaii and purportedly there have been incidents which did not go well for Dog and his gang. Nobody reputable uses them so he preys on the very poor and most desperate. The repo show is clearly staged and it is nothing more than poor quality slapstick.

repossessions I had less than 10 result in a battery and I had 6 gun threats in 20 years. This included around 1000 Harleys, and those guys like their bikes. Many were in medium to large cities, the more dangerous ones were actually in rural areas. Lots of yelling, threats and tough talk, lots of police. I had a bunch of tough guy wannabes apply to work for me....refused to hire any of them. I had good luck with salesmen as repo agents, they knew how to talk to people.

I had way more batteries working as a process server than repos. I never did any bounty hunting but knew some hunters.

Which is what I think drives a lot of the crap on Dog and the repo shows. You are right about adept people skills being more important than brawn.

I did have a repo man arrested a while back. He bypassed my security gate and I called the sheriff. He then forced the door to the large outbuilding. Deputy showed up with lights on. His partner took off on foot. He was arrested him for B&E and taken away, the deputy telling him that his claim of innocent error was up to the judge. I called called the towing company I had used to tow RVs off my property and had them come get the truck. They are also on the opposite side of the county. After he got out he went to get his truck back...seriously expensive and nothing he could do about the fees. His buddy never showed back up, I assumed he walked out. Turned out that they had the wrong property. I am out in the twigs, so some of that was understandable, the B&E was not.

22. Everyone's brother is/was a repo man

everyone had a story, usually unbelievable. One guy who applied with me told me that he was repoing cars for a tote lot. The debtor kept the car in a garage and refused to bring it out. His brilliant solution you ask? He said he started the garage on FIRE, the debtor pulled the car out, and he took off in it....needless to say he didn't get the job.
