What to do with a cell phone and unused minutes?
Just got my first smart phone and my old tracfone has six and a half hours of minutes that will expire in 40 days.
Does anyone know if anything can be done with the phone before it expires?

1. Find a shelter for women and children like The Shalom House.
http://shalomhouse.net/

They can always use phones.

3. Well, there's Cell Phones for Soldiers
They don't use your minutes, but the cell phones are sold to a recycling company and the proceeds are used to buy calling cards for soldiers. I have no direct experience with it, but my alderman (a Democrat) collects the phones at his office for this group. Find a drop off location here:

Isn't it a little dicey to give away a phone with minutes without canceling the number or account? Someone could run up a very large tab on that.

4. I also vote for a Women's or homeless shelter, we used to love getting them for donations...
ESPECIALLY near the holiday season so a few folks could call loved ones.

5. That's a good idea.
For 10 bucks I can add another hour and extend the phone into January before I donate it.
