"Local" Boston news anchor has been broadcasting from Florida for 2 years
On one of the coldest mornings of the year, veteran WBZ Radio anchor Gary LaPierre couldn't get over how frigid it was outside.

"Would you believe it's 5 below zero right now?" he told listeners yesterday at 6 a.m. "The only thing worse than the actual temperature right now is having the wind chill factored in."

What he didn't mention was that he was actually in northern Florida, where it was a balmy 50 degrees.

(snip)

WBZ NewsRadio 1030 -- Boston's dominant local radio news outlet -- hasn't informed listeners of LaPierre's location and defended its approach yesterday.

1. What a joke
But I'm surprised it hasn't happened more often. Hey maybe it does and we just don't know it. Sometimes though those radio shows are syndicated

2. I used to Listen to BZ back in the Nixon Years

That was a great station. Who was the liberal talk show host on in the evenings? He was fantastic. He was on during the Watergate scandal when explosive news was breaking daily. He was one of the few who correctly identified what a serious crisis Watergate was and how dangerous Nixon and his cronies were to the democracy. Those were the days when radio was good and not the trash heap that Clear Channel has wrought today.

I also remember the late night guy. Was it Larry Glick? They also had sports show that was a blast called the Sports Huddle that was hosted by 3 lawyers I believe. I still have some old reel to reel tapes of WBZ from the late 60's and early 70's.

I have listened to WBZ infrequently in recent years. Their signal does not seem to carry into the South and Midwest like it used to in the good old days. It used to boom into southern WV when I was growing up.

On edit:

I Googled and found out it was Jerry Williams. I guess he is not on the air any more.
