Russert 's Bush Interview: "Recorded live to tape" ?
What does "live to tape" mean? If this thing is going to be taped, then it's meaningless. Nothing more than a campaign commerical.

From Meet the Press Web Site:

This will be the George W. Bush's first Sunday morning show appearance as president. He has appeared on Meet the Press twice as a presidential candidate (November 21, 1999 and February 13, 2000). The exclusive interview will originate from the Oval Office at the White House and will be recorded live to tape on Saturday.

12. Totally Scripted, I would imagine...
Even if it weren't live to tape - which is bad enough - I am sure the Dubyah team would never agree to do this if they didn't have an angle. My guess is that they have developed a whole script, questions and answers, and that Russert would not have a problem doing it this way. The guy is Cheney's pitbull! I always thought they should at least give him a jar of pork rind or beef jerky to chew while he interviews guests. It would be a nice touch.

3. "live to tape" is an empty meaningless phrase
to make us think there won't be any editing, no re-takes, etc. They wouldn't make that distinction unless there really WILL be edits and re-takes.

4. It's pretty clear to me
The moment that it is filmed they are live. I guess this is to distinguish this from the times they interview Dracula.

5. Are they that afraid W* will say something stupid?
I mean, Russert will surely throw the Chimp nothing but batting practice fastballs right over the plate. What's the deal? Will the debates be "live to tape" too?

8. "Live to Tape" is a common term in the biz.
I'm in the biz so I'll explain what it means.

"Live to Tape" means "A Live Event that's Taped and Edited". However, this usually means that the participants are not at the same facility. This term is usually applied when one or more participants is linked via Satellite or some other type of broadcast transport.

If both participants were in the same facility, but it wasn't "Live on Air", we would usually just say that it was "Taped" or that it was a "Shoot". It would then be edited, usually.

"Live to Air" means "Live, no edits"

Kinda hokey.

10. It'll be taped. And edited.
But "Live to Tape" would usually mean that Timmy and Chimpy would not be in the same room. For example, in different cities.

The engineers at the Studio are the ones who would need to know that a "Live Feed" originating from someplace else is coming in, and they they would need to "Tape" it. and then edit the whole thing together. Hence the term, "Live to Tape".

If Timmy and w* are in fact, in the same room, and the show is taped, then to call it "Live to Tape" is bullshit. The industry term for that would be "Taped".

If Chimpy and Timmy were in different cities, but the interview would in fact, be live, then it's called a "Live Shot", not "Live to Tape".

So I smell a rat. I doubt very much that this will be actual Live TV.

11. Live or Taped
Either way, even with soft balls by Russet,* will still say something stupid. He is so stupid that words come out of his mouth and he is not capable of knowing what they mean. He gets that look of pride on his face. The smirk that shows that he is confident that he just coined an Einstein remark.

Remember when he told the word that he didn't read the newspaper? Wasn't that an interview with Diane Sawyer?

13. Russert and Bush were both in the Oval Office so NBC may be
Russert and Bush were both in the Oval Office so NBC may be misusing the term "live to tape" to try to make a taped-and-edited show sound live, which it's not.
