Carly Simon takes the cash to name 1973 hit song love rat

£35,000 to hear who was so vain

A television executive in the US has paid £35,000 to discover who singer Carly Simon said was so vain in her classic 1970s hit.

Dick Ebersol will be sworn to secrecy before being told the name during a private concert next week.

Simon has already told him that the big-headed subject of the 1973 song has the letter E in it.

So it could be Mick Jagger, Cat Stevens, Warren Beatty or her ex-husband James Taylor.

Mr Ebersol was the highest bidder in a charity auction at Martha's Vineyard, the Massachusetts island where the singer lives.

1. I think it's James Taylor ...

I never cared for him, he always acted snooty to me.

But it may be Mick, but his association to the song is doing backing vocals. Would be nice irony though ....

4. I was under the impression.............

that it was Warren Beatty. Many years ago this was a topic of discussion, and I thought Carly pointed the finger at Warren, without actually uttering his name. Perhaps it was all in my head, those were days of many chemicaly induced sojourns into my soul.
