Pentagon classifies Missile Def problem report - and media says ??
So Waxman scores by finding silly look back 3 years and silence critical report move by Pentagon - and our media ignores!

Can any recall when the US Media was more bought than now- in last 60 years?

This is worse than when Senator Joe McCarthy scared everyone with his inside pocket list of commies and those that like commies.

As Zell says - Bush has has the media selling Warriors and wimps.

1. Coyle report recommendations classified...
Representatives Henry Waxman, D-Calif., and John Tierney, D-Mass. have written to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to protest the Pentagon's recent move to retroactively classify a report which questions the technological status of the missile defense system being developed. It was released by then-Director of Operational Test and Evaluation Philip E. Coyle III in August 2000. Known as the "Coyle report," this assessment pointed out the many technical limitations of the national missile defense system at that point and gave 50 recommendations for improvement. The Coyle report's recommendations, subject of a recent General Accounting Office analysis, have been testified upon in an unclassified setting and posted on government officials' unclassified websites. However, the Pentagon has now deemed that the 50 recommendations be classified. In the words of Waxman and Tierney, "The decision to classify the 50 specific recommendations set forth by the Pentagon's chief testing officer is highly dubious. It appears to be an attempt to stymie public debate through the use of the classification system." The letter is available on the CDI website at http://www.cdi.org/news/missile-defense/HAW-JFT-Letter-to-Rumsfeld%200... . The Coyle report, which was first disseminated by the House of Representatives in June 2001 and has been available on the internet since, is also available on the CDI website at http://www.cdi.org/news/missile-defense/coyle.pdf .

3. 49 retired military brass urge missile deployment delay...
A letter signed by 49 retired military officials urged President George W. Bush to hold off on deploying an initial missile defense this year. They contend that because of this "deployment deadline," the Pentagon "has waived the operational testing requirements that are essential to determining whether or not this highly complex system of systems is effective and suitable." They ask instead that, "as the militarily responsible course of action," funding be transferred to non-proliferation and homeland security programs. The letter is available at http://64.177.207.201/static/nmd/pdf/generals_letter_nmd.pdf .
