comparing war on terror and WW2
remember how bush used to compare this war to WW2 and all the freepers and Fox News people would get all fired up and blow everything all out of proportion? Well I was watching CNN and they were talking about how he just did that for memorial day and then they started reading letter that people wrote in about it. People were saying things like, him comparing his personal vendetta to us saving the free world just shows how much of a god damn idiot he is with no perspective on history, and, this insults the memory of all the people who sacrificed during WW2, and bush is no FDR, maybe he will be remembered as more of a Herbert Hoover and have vacuums named after him for his ability to suck the life out of the economy.

The rhetoric is wearing thin my friends.

1. Well, on C-Span they had a repug and a democrat reps. The WWII meme
is what the repugs want to use. And use. and use. (Gingrey went on and on pushing this idea) Unfortunately for them, some people are seeing right through this rhetoric.
A caller earlier on C-Span said that it is similar but we are playing he part of the Nazis.... it seems to be backfiring on them.

3. Classic "reframing of the issue" by rethuglicans, for at least 3 purposes:
1) To rationalize our being there in the first place & shore up support for such, in the face of evidence to the contrary;

2) To provide a more "noble" & palatible alternative to comparing it to Vietnam, (the much more obvious parallel to our invasion of Iraq).

I think this additional piece of propaganda is already backfiring in other parts of the world where the press is more likely to challenge Bush/Rove and their tortured logic.

The situation today is also far different from WWII because back then, all citizens were called upon to sacrifice. Not happening today, except those in combat and the lower & middle class are sacrifice our futures by default, because any "programs of social uplift" (MLK,Jr.) are cut back to finance this invasion AND to finance tax cuts for the wealthy that COULD be used to finance the invasion. It's ALL tied up together, and almost everyone loses.

So in the long run, EVERYONE is paying except the upper class, which includes Bushco & cronies. The only way they could end up "paying" is by being voted out of office. If we don't do that, we have surrendered almost all power to them.

As much as any of us hate to hear it, the caller who admitted the parallels to WWII because we're the agressor now as the Nazis were the agressors then... anyone who's honest will have to admit that. In that way it's backfiring, too, against all of us.
