We are being labeled as Bush haters by the looney right

Pretty funny when you look at it; the right wing zeolots insitutionalized and were the leading progressisves when it came to hating politicians; Bill Clinton being their poster boy for hating democracts.

Now when it is thrown back at them they ask, "Why do you hate the great Man, your leader, your presdient?"

I perfer to laugh at their hypocrisy.

1. I heard an NPR story about this the other day...
By the ends of the discussion it was made clear the repukes were the masters of unreasonable hate and that progressive have legitimate reasons for hating Bush*.

I have to be honest- he's an easy POS to hate.

3. They even hated JFK for gods sake
Only hate could drive the big push to comp the recount effort in Fla 3 years ago. You could see the fevor in their faves, they full knowing its not the class thing to do, the right thing to do, but still they stole the election.

Only hate could be the underlying cause it being a license to overwhelm goodness by lying, cheating, stealing.

Yikes, watch for those darts man.

4. I resemble that..
If the GOP didn't want their boy wonder to be the most hated man in America and the world, they should have thought about it before stealing the election and running a campaign of lies (posing as 'moderates,' haha!), followed by an administration of lies, assaults on working people and wars of aggression.

Slowly, the corporate media seems to be acknowledging that their boy wonder is among already just about the most despised 'president' in history.

Of course the latest spin from our friends on the far right is that it is gratuitous 'bush bashing' and 'bush hating.'

It may be 'bashing' and 'hating' I freely acknowledge, but it is in no way gratuitious!

Payback's a bitch, isn't it fuckheads?

8. I don't hate Bush
It's much worst than that. I don't respect him. I don't respect his intelligence, speaking either with regard to pure intellect or emotional intelligence. I don't respect his values. I don't respect his honesty - not when he doesn't come clean with the American people about how many drugs he did, and why he should be President while other people who got caught but didn't have Daddy running the CIA,
did/are still doing serious time in prison. I don't respect his psychological makeup. And I particularly don't respect a man who can lose the popular vote, then act as if has any kind of a political mandate, drag a nation far to the right - and dare question the patriotism of someone like Max Cleland, whose was losing the use of body parts while Dubya and his buddies were drinking and drugging their way through the Vietnam War.

Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 10:07 PM by gtrump
The only value I can discern is, "Get elected at all costs."

Bush's values don't strike me as being Christian. I was raised and still am a Christian, and am proud of it. The values I learned growing up resemble nothing of what Bush stands for.

It'd be one thing if Bush believed the bullshit he feeds to the Radical Right. But he doesn't. He says what he does to get money and votes from the Falwells and Dobsons, and their beliefs have little to do with being good Christians, a la David Kuo.

96. Which values do you respect?
the ones which cripple the middle class, the ones which kill thousands upon thousands of people, or the ones which seek to weaken the Constitution in order to secure his own power?

I'm curious, and don't mean to come across as attacking you, but please explain what you mean.

I will be the first to admit that although I could not stand his father, I tried to give him a chance to be a good president. hell, even after he stole the 2000 election, I waited to see what he would do before I hated him. I do not hate him just out of legacy or out of any kind of party loyalty or even because we disagree on most issues.

I hate him because he has done nothing but earn the hatred, distrust, fear, and laughter of the world. He is held up by people who claim to be Christian and claim to be about merit over charity, yet he has been handed everything in his life and still managed to fail at everything he does. By representing America at home and abroad, he embarrasses and distresses and shames our nation.

So, please explain what values he has to respect. I will end by saying that as a leftist agnostic I deeply resent myself and my fellow citizens being painted as traitors and worse by Bush and his gang. I make every effort to uphold honesty, honor, humility, and I value hard work - none of those things is exclusive to one mind set, philosophy, religion, or anything, damn it. Bush does not respect you or me, and has done NOTHING to earn my respect or yours.

I despise George W. Bush* and his whole criminal gang. If I were elected president my first official act would be to round them up and ship them off to The Hague in handcuffs and leg-irons-- let them argue from the dock that they don't recognize the ICC. When Bush* is removed from office I'll celibrate long into the night. He is a pea-brained neo-con puppet who has sold my country down the river, pissed on the Constitution, looted our economy for his cronies, made misery, destitution, death, and greed the basis of our foreign policy, institutionalized fear as a domestic policy, and elevated mendacity to a high political art. Hate the bastard? That doesn't even begin to describe the depths of my loathing for George W. Whistle-Ass.

targeted not at the left, but at the middle voters. If you do not adore Bush or if you question anything about him, you are a looney tunes Bush Hater.

I think it is their attempt to keep the middle from doubting Bush's policies.

31. Good point
It's becoming increasingly obvious that Rove, et. al, will paint anybody the party nominates and the Democratic party as looney.

Look at the RNC video, with its "demented Dean" cameos.

Look at the quiet attack campaign they have started on the personality of Wesley Clark.

They are probably half hoping that some really crazy stuff happens at the convention so that they can flood the airwaves with it right before the campaign.

The goal, and you were so right about this, is to change the subject from the failures of this administration.

However, the Republicans have a major problem: Their guy is perhaps the biggest looney tune running. He looks half-crazed half of the time. If the Repubs try to change the subject they may just find it backfiring on them.

13. Not Surprising, Typical Right-Wing MO, Still Contemptible
I'm not a bit surprised that the latest right-wing shibboleth is that progressives hate George UU Bush. It sounds like something right-wingers say if they were contending with a successful Gore administration--that they hated the President.

I've grown accustomed to such hateful rhetoric from the extreme part but I despise it as much as I ever did. Nowadays, I not only hold the right-wing polemicists and politicians who routinely resort to such nastiness in contempt, but I'm growing increasing contemptuous of self-styled "reasonable" Republicans who remain silent when their party's rabid-right fringe resorts to their right-wing gutter tactics.

14. Name-calling
I'm having this problem on another board. Calling the chimp-in-chief names has now become verboten, because another conservative freeper has alighted himself on the board and uses derogatory titles on his postings. It's okay for the frigging freeper to be calling Hillary "Mrs. Liar" or calling Senator Byrd "Sheets," but no more calling republicans "repukes" or "repugs" or any other epithet. These particular conservatives bring up Robert Byrd's time as a KKK member from 60 years ago, and keep trying to throw that up in our face, but when we mention the cic's DUI convictions, or his coke convictions, or his AWOL status, they shrug it off. They constantly think that Dems are "picking on them" when it's clear to us that they have double-standards ALL the way around.

I used to enjoy that board, even with the couple of conservatives on the board including the EZOp, because there was always an open discussion feeling to the board. Now the EZOp has a new playmate, and the two of them twitter like children about the Dems, and strike back with nastiness to those of us who were/are Dems on the board.

I just told them today that I'd stop with some of the name-calling the minute the freeper stops using emotionally charged titles to his posts--something which will never happen, so feh! there is no need for me to stop the name-calling of the TRUTH.

22. "Byrd's time as a KKK member...
They only mention Byrd and the Klan to divert the reader from the topic. You can have whatever opinion you want towards Byrd, but this is just an ad hominum attack. Senator Byrd, an orphan raised by an aunt and uncle and worked in the West Virginia coalfields during the depression, worked as a welder in the Baltimore shipyards building the famous "Liberty ships" that Eisenhower said we so crucial to winning the war. While it's true that he did not serve in uniform, many others who also did not wear a uniform, did what they could. Why hell, some of them even made movies in Hollywood!

Byrd understands his history and has effectively used his position in Congress to make amends, and he has been doing so since the 70's.

But, since they play the race card, ask them where any of them took on another guy that never wore a uniform and had an affiliation with the Klan - not 40+ years ago, but in in 1997 - Senator Trent Lott.

Ask them about Senators Frist, McConnell, Santorum, Vice-President Cheney, etc.; none of whom never wore a uniform, but found time to euolgize one that did and also had the backing of the Klan - at the same time Byrd did - Senator Strom Thurman.

Ask them about Georgia's Governor Sonny Perdue, who refused to lower state flags to half-mast to commemorate Maynard Jackson's death; yet the very next day, Perdue got those flags down to half-staff in a hurry-up to show respect for - Lester Maddox!

Ask them if they support the White House nomination of Charles Pickering for the US Court of Appeals, the guy who supported Mississippi's Sovereignty Commission, a state-funded agency that spied and compiled dossiers on US citizens - and then lied about it.

Anger for the cause of justice is no crime.

There is so little justice in this administration that anger is warranted and reasonable. (it is the only sane response)

On the other hand, respectful and civil discourse, even when opinions differ,is essential to democracy.

We need all Democrats, every one of them, to vote for our party's nominee, regardless of who it turns out to be.

The top priority is sending this bozo back to Crawfish Texas.

No more of this "it doesn't matter if the democrat or repugnican wins" please.

38. the OVERRIDING consideration
2004 regime change in Washington
Everything else is relatively unimportant.

For the record: I HATE the smirking chimp.

The key is to direct that anger for positive change: electing a DEM in 2004.

We cannot win that election without attracting voters who might possibly vote for the object of our hatred.

Our venom and vitriol (however justified) will alienate voters who are uninformed, inclined to trust the president, and unlikely to identify with a campaign that our enemies will make every effort to characterize as the unpatriotic lunatic left.

I must confess that I sometimes enjoy venting my spleen against the usurper in the White House, but I am making every effort to control this angry passion when interacting publicly or privately with those whom I seek to persuade.

The freepers can choke on their own bile for all I care.

Truth, logic, and reason are on our side.

Let's not assist our enemies in their efforts to distract the public from the real issues by failing to harness our passion with our intelligence.

Right-wingers consider any disagreement with their positions or their pet politicos to be "hate speech" for the simple reason that right-wingers HATE being criticized.

It's that... the line that liberals hate America... THAT'S what gets under my skin. The very free speech that our forefathers fought to protect, the same free speech that we liberal minded Americans like ACLU members continue to fight for, is being dismantled and abused by people who claim to love the country more than we do.

51. Well, I, for one, AM a Bush hater, so I have no problem with that.
I despise that vile, rotten bastard, and the twisted perversion of the American ideal that he stands for, with every fibre of my being. It fills me with a great and lucent joy to think of him being driven out of office disgraced, humiliated, and broken, a whipped cur with his tail between his legs; gone back to Crawford to live in hateful and hated retirement and die a reviled figure whose name will forever be synonymous with corruption and evil in high places as that of Caligula or Richard Nixon, with failure as that of Warren Harding or Ulysses Grant.

54. I don't hate His Fraudulency
I DO, however, hate what he and his ilk have done to this country. He and his corporate criminal buddies have prostituted our once-great nation. They have wiped their asses with the Constitution, sent our kids to die by the dozens for oil, and then call us "unpatriotic" and "Unamerican" when we raise concerns.

My grandparents were immigrants who fled the Russian Empire in 1914. They possessed what I call a "Simple Patriotism" for their adopted country. They loved America because it was good to them and because it was the Land of Hope. During the Great Depression, the voice of FDR on the radio convinced them that America would get back on its feat and it did. As Catholics, they took such pride in the accomplishments of JFK and watched in horror as the events of November, 1963, unfolded. My grandmother recalled with reverence that day during the Indiana primary in May of 1968 that she met and shook hands with Bobby Kennedy. One month later he was dead and she mourned him almost as if he were one of her own family. I am glad that my grandparents have gone on to their reward and are not here to see what His Fraudulency has done to their country.

Now, for me to be called a "hater" because I dare to criticize this corrupt and soulless administration is the final indignity. I LOVE my country and I refuse to sit down and shut up because some pill-popping Jabbaesque radio pundit or a melted Barbie Doll like Ann Coulter don't like what I have to say!!

Sorry so long, but this really hit a nerve with me.

62. Hatred = myopic
Hatred is a knee-jerk emotion which solves nothing, at the end of the day. It didn't work when Republicans were so angry at Clinton, they couldn't punch straight and it won't work now. Anger is no substitute for vision. The American people will not elect us based on our anger for the president. They will elect us on a compelling alternative to Bush's ideas. How have Republians addressed the problem of the 40M uninsured in this country? They haven't. Ideas win elections. Clinton said so himself and he had experience winning.

63. the right's hatred of Clinton didn't work?
I guess that depends on what the definition of "success" is/

I know several people who voted for the chimp because of what Clinton did. I responded by aksing: so you're punishing gore for what Clinton did?!?

And they get a blank look in their eyes.

I would say the right-wing attacks were successful from the perspective of a wingnut. Their hateful attacks got enough voters to think badly of Clinton (which tainted Gore in the minds of non-thinkers).

So the wingnut attacks played a part in putting the 2000 election within close enough reach for the bush junta to steal it.

Ergo, their hate worked...

I'm NOT saying that outcome was a good thing or that their hate was justified (I mean, screaming bloody murder over a private sexual act seemed deranged to me). It's just that they whipped up the hate in order to smear the left. Many people now think the word "liberal" is a dirty word, "thanks" to the vulgar pig boy. Etc. Etc.

Dangerous, yes. Deranged, yes.
Unsuccessful? well not from their perspective.

I'm not smart enough to know whether or not the left should mimic their hateful tactics. I just know that what I've witnessed these neo-con bastards makes me really angry (rageful?? probably not a word, but oh well.) Nobody whipped up that hate in me, as I did my own research and reading.

64. There are very few reasons to hate Bush
Basically that he doesn't care what policy he promotes, or what lies he is telling to promote it. And Good Goddess do I hate him for that!

As far as his job performance goes, * is the Peter Principle personified. He has failed his way up the ladder of success.
From here, there is only apotheosis... Someone, after all, had to become the God of Malignant Mediocrity. He will be the patron Deity of the banality of evil for the next Millennium. Hooray for America!

But Rove, Cheney, Rummy, Perle, and Wolfy all need immediate regrooving.

I hope, from my resting place in hades' realm, to see them on the hillsides of Tartarus, suffering fates evil enough to fuel 100 generations of cautionary tales.

Talk about hatred. If you want to see real right-wing hatred, visit the un-moderated MoveOn forum. On the anniversary of the assassination of JFK, there were posts celebrating and cheering his murder. There was another post from a wingnut that was a reply to an anti-war post from a mother of a soldier in Iraq. The reply said, "I hope your son eats a bullet for lunch." There were more curses in it, but it was something like that. Now that is REAL hatred.

79. Same reason they call a "liberal media"
By calling us haters, they try to soften our message. By calling the Mass Media a "liberal media", they try to swing the media to soften up on the Republicans. By calling Kerry on the Mary Cheney lesbian statement they attempt to kill any discussion of gays as worthy people.

These are tactics which don't work against Republicans because they have no inhabitions on fairness. Democrats cherish concepts like "open mindedness" "equal playing fields" "cooperation" etc. The Republicans take our core beliefs and use them as weapons. In our attempts to have unbiased news, sensitivity to family privacy, and love for all we bite the Republican hook and alter our messages.

When we do get someone with some balls like Michael Moore and Howard Dean the Republicans attack them again as being unfair and crazies. The Democrats cower at this and hide them like alcoholic uncles we are ashamed of. We forfeit these mouthpieces due to our core values of trying to be fundementally fair and open minded. We don't need to loose our core values, but we should not allow Republicans to exploit us by using them against us either.

Most true conservatives are fed up with Bush and quite a bit fed up with the GOP; its the Repubby zealots not Conservatives who label you as Bush-haters, but if it's true why are you offended? On the last political forum, Conservative Life, I was on you shoul hear what they say about Bush and his administration. I left the Republicans and went to the Constitutional Party since they are in line with my views. I admit I did vote for Bush in 04, but that's because I don't agree with anything Kerry says or does; it was a vote for the lesser of two evils. I vote now primarily on the person, not the party.

Look I’ve also got a question, I’ve been looking all over for a topic that concerns

Has anyone posted an article about this. About how it is actually the Republicans who hate the troops.
They sneak them in the country on midnight flights and attempt to shut down any discussion of the life and world that these troops are enduring. Anyone know of something on this that I can post back home ?

105. First Post
Hello everybody,

This is my first post here, so please forgive my n00bness if I'm posting the wrong kind of content in the wrong thread. This topic really grabbed my attention though.

I'm new to the forums, and have actually come here in the hopes to better understanding your Party. I myself am not a Democrat or a liberal, but I am not a Republican either. I consider myself an independent and tend to lean conservative. My main reason for not siding with any party is because I am staunchly against the hatred that has become associated with partisanship. Though I am not a Democrat, and have thus far usually disagreed with Democrats, I do not hate Democrats. I am troubled with the amount of hatred I see in politics.

Anyway, that said, my reason for coming here is to learn. I honestly have a very limited understanding of Democrat ideology, and I have really been struggling trying to understand it. Given the potential for bias in various forms of media, I believe that the only reliable means of learning is to go straight to the source -- so I have joined your forums in hopes that I may learn from all of you. I am NOT hear to push any views or beliefs; only to learn them.

Now that said...

In this thread, I see a staunch, vehement hatred of Bush, and the posts seem to validify claims that you are "Bush haters". Personally, I view Bush as any other normal President in our history -- there are things I like about him and other things that trouble me. I see some logical points Democrats make in opposing him, and equally valid points Republicans have made in defending him. What I would like to understand is what has shifted your stance from staunch opposition based upon difference in views/ideals to outright hatred of a man. Why have things gone so far as to become outright hatred? Is this really healthy?

On the flipside of this coin, I would ask a Republican the same thing regarding Clinton. As a conservative, yes, there are things about Clinton that deeply disturb me -- but on the other hand, he didn't destroy the nation as President by any means. We seemed to get by economically under his administration, and no one can deny some good things happened during those years. Personally, I harbor no such hatred for the man.

Sorry for the long winded post. Please do enlighten with your take on this and help me better understand your side of the story.
