Rockey : Bush :: Elvis : Nixon
Edited on Wed Aug-23-06 03:35 PM by whrab

Caption: Rockey Vaccarella, who lost his home to Katrina, appears with President Bush at the White House.
Full story: http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/23/bush.katrina.ap/index.html

Synopsis: Apparently Rockey lost everything in Katrina, but is a Registered republican and even ran for local office in St. Bernard Parish (he lost). Therefore, he is a major apologist for Bush, and was granted an audience and even appeared side by side with Bush in a photo-op.

Is anyone else reminded of Elvis Meets Nixon?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0122474/

Elvis, sheltered and unaware of the impact his request would have on the world, asked Nixon if he could be appointed as a one-of-a-kind "narcotics-agent at-large." Nixon, with his populararity plummeting, saw a way to make popular inroads quickly and with minimal effort. All he had to do was shake hands with Elvis in front of the camera, and his popularity woes would subside...

This photo-op proves that at least one person affected by Katrina is satisfied with Bush's response to the disaster.
QED.

Paul Begala on CNN's "The Situation Room," just nailed it.
I speak with unclean hands, here. I have staged more phoney photo-ops ... We had a six foot polyester chicken chasiong Bush, Sr., around, okay? So I've done alot. But this is embarrassing, even by my standards. To have this guy - this Republican hack - pretending that anybody with half-a-brain believes that Bush did a good job in Katrina, and for (the White House) to approve this is nuts. It is an embarrassment. What the president should be doing is ... going down there and talking with real people who lost loved ones ... this is serious business, instead of having some clown stand up on the white house lawn...
