Hume Launches New Smear: Plame Lied Under Oath
<18 Mar 07>

Today on Fox News Sunday, Brit Hume continued his campaign to smear Valerie Plame Wilson. Previously, he had falsely said that it was “unlikely she was” covert.

Instead of apologizing this morning, he launched a new attack against Plame, claiming that she had lied under oath when she testified on Friday about whether she recommended her husband be sent to Niger to investigate Iraq’s supposed nuclear ambitions ...

Plame testified that she never suggested her husband for the Niger trip. “I did not recommend him, I did not suggest him, there was no nepotism involved — I didn’t have the authority,” she said.

Hume’s false claim originated from a statement attached to the Senate Intelligence Committee report on Iraq that was released in 2004. In an addendum to that report, Sens. Pat Roberts (R-KS), Christopher Bond (R-MO), and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) wrote definitively, “The plan to send the former ambassador to Niger was suggested by the former ambassador’s wife, a CIA employee.” The right-wing, including columnist Bob Novak, have taken the statement written by three Republican senators and falsely attributed it as the “unanimous” conclusion of the Senate report ...

1. I knew that was coming
They can't say she lied about being covert so now they're trying to turn the worthless opinion of 3 Republican Senators into the basis of "proof" that she lied. GMAFB. :eyes:

9. Yeah .... Great idea .....
Put that 'fair and balanced' bastard in the hot seat and give him the third degree ....

Perhaps Tony Snow, his old pal, has whispered to him a few things that might be of use to other, more honest men ....

Brit Hume appears to know something about it : MAKE him talk about it ...

5. Good point!
In addition, considering all of the fallout over this issue, if she WASN'T covert, why would Bush make statements about getting to the bottom of this, etc., along with Libby going to trial over it?

Surely if she WASN'T covert, the WH would have dug up that information, PRONTO, and issued a statement confirming her non-cover status from day one - thereby ending the discussion, and the need for any further investigation.

The only reason they couldn't end the discussion was because they KNEW she was under-cover and HAD indeed been outted.

6. True, of course
but the right-wing has never let things like fact, and truth, get in the way of their opinions, and bleatings. Hume is a useless jackass, who would lie about anything, if it advanced the right-wing propaganda. Does he really think that Valerie Plume Wilson would lie to Congress, under oath, when the agent who wrote the memo wants to be reinterviewed, to set the record straight?

As a former covert CIA agent, she knows only too well the penalties involved in committing perjury. Just ask Scooter Libbey. The CIA would not let her get away with lying about agency business on national television.

More likely he's a lot of both.

I'm just glad he's on an outlet I can avoid and not miss anything worth spit.
