That's the question on everyone's lips since the porcine political player announced he would be stepping down at the end of August. Of course, the excuse that he wants to spend more time with his family is horse puckey and we all know it--so what's really going on? Is this yet another Machiavellian move by the man the press has lovingly adored the "architect of Bush's vision?" Is he trying to give Bush political cover if he gets ensnared in one of the many investigations that keep leading back to his turd-blossomed behind?
Some of my fellow scrogues tend to think he may be gearing up to pad his wallet by working for another Republican's campaign--possibly Fred Thompson, who to Rove would seem like the perfect wax-dummy zombie revival of Reagan needed to placate the GOP's nativist, xenophobic base--and the possible aid of Rove protege, former U.S. attorney, and voter fraud master Tim Griffin to Thompson seems to bear that out.
It could also be that Rove is taking a page from the Nixon playbook, as he has so many other times, and may be setting up an outside shop to help the GOP while being insulated from direct contact to them. Rove is a master of a particularly nasty form of politics that involves dirty pool at every level, and it would surprise me not a whit if he was going to be up to his robo-calling, black-vote-suppressing, classified-information-disclosing ways for some innocuous-sounding LLC firm in no time.
