Conservative media figures allege Obama's Hawaii trip is about .. birth-certificate ..
Conservative media figures allege Obama's Hawaii trip is about discredited birth-certificate rumors, not his ailing grandmother

Conservative radio hosts Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh and Obama Nation author Jerome Corsi -- who appeared as a guest on G. Gordon Liddy's radio show -- suggested or asserted that the true purpose of Sen. Barack Obama's current trip to Hawaii is not to visit his ailing grandmother, as Obama claims, but rather to address rumors -- widely debunked -- that Obama has failed to produce a valid U.S. birth certificate. However, as Media Matters for America has documented, the Obama campaign posted a copy of Obama's birth certificate on its "Fight the Smears" website and reportedly provided the original document to FactCheck.org, whose staff concluded in an August 21 post that it "meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship." A Hawaiian Health Department official also reportedly confirmed to PolitiFact.com that Obama's birth certificate is valid, and even Corsi's employer, the right-wing website WorldNetDaily, reported in an August 23 article that a "WND investigation into Obama's birth certificate utilizing forgery experts also found the document to be authentic" ...

2. Even if it was true, why would Obama go to Hawaii to take care of it personally?
These people must think we're all a buncha morons.

5. I presume you mean the following three posts (two in B/C snd one in E&OA),
to one of which you are replying and to one of which you link: conservatives are outraged about Obama visiting his ill grandma, conservatives claim Obama is actually in Hawaii to falsify birth records, and PA nitwit sues to get "foreign born" Obama off-ballot

We're about ten days from an election. Republican surrogates are angrily hurling their feces every which way. Knowing the enemy and the enemy's position is critical right now: anyone who's knocking doors or making phone calls needs to be aware of what persuadable people might be hearing

Attacks on Obama for visiting an ill elderly family member are, I think, destined to belly-flop: such stories do, however, tell us how weak and desperate the McCain campaign is

The birth certificate stories are certainly lunatic fringe and reinforce what most of us already know about the Republican base:

The Media Matters article I posted in B/C contains (yet again) information debunking this old wingnut myth; since DU regularly gets new members (who may not have long memories about what has appeared here before), I don't consider it harmful to repost known information discrediting old wingnut attacks, when the attacks are repeated -- as the Media Matters article indicates

The lawsuit article I posted in E&OA is current news: if you read the article, it is dismissive of the lawsuit, and if you read the accompanying thread, you will find that (in fact) Saturday's paper will report dismissal of the lawsuit: if I had found that dismissal article, I would have posted it instead; I did not find it, but another DUer did -- a confirmation, in my eyes, of the value of DU. The "lack of standing" dismissal is, in fact, what one expected and probably reliably tells us what to expect regarding other similar lawsuits

I'm inclined to agree that these are "frivolous" and "full of shit" non-issues, but throughout my life my perceptions of an issue have seldom matched the perceptions of a majority of the electorate. I certainly hope DUers don't themselves steer typical political conversation towards such non-issues -- but perhaps some other DUers will share this feeling of mine: when I knock on a stranger's door, I like to have in the back of my mind some idea what off-the-wall crap might come from them and what brief one-liner I might accurately toss back

4. Shouldn't be calling them conservative radio commentators. They are hatemongers,
pure and simple.
