Unforgiving McCain supporters resist change
Joseph Wojtkiewicz
Issue date: 11/12/08 Section: Perspectives

... No one runs for that office without a sense of patriotism or commitment, no one. So that being said, can someone please tell me why there are over 40 Facebook groups devoted to "Moving to Canada if Obama Wins?" I find it ironic you would flee this country to avoid universal health care, only to go to a country that already has it ...

3. I said that I would have to consider very seriously leaving the country if McCain won, but that
was different.

For one thing, the re-election of George Bush floored me. I felt I must be in the wrong place, among the wrong people, or at least the wrong voters. If after 8 years of George Bush, the country had chosen another dishonest Republican, I would have despaired of ever again being happy with a President before I died.

For another thing, if Obama had lost after his poll numbers in the final two months, I would have been fairly certain that another election had been stolen. So, again, I would have despaired.

Since Republicans who voted for Bush twice--or even once--should not have either of those issues, my situation would not be comparable to theirs, though
