... Sarah Palin can’t name a founding father ...

Oh god, Sarah Palin can’t name a founding father, haha (tear)

... it’s not that I like writing about Sarah Palin ... I find her boring, and when she eventually disappears from public life .. we’ll look back on her silly popularity with a collective disgust, the same way we think about, oh, say, George Wallace.

That said, .. below is a clip of Sarah Palin freezing like a startled Real American when asked — by .. Glenn Beck — to name her favorite founding father. The terror in her eyes reaches through the screen ...

So, anyway, when asked to name her favorite founding father, Palin goes feral and responds, “all of them” ... Wow, that’s a great answer. ”All of them” is also my favorite Stanley Kubrick film ...

2. Oh she eventually got George Washington and a couple of basic points about him.
She could have passed a fifth grade exam with the answer if the teacher was in a good mood.

7. Sarah Palin thinks the founding fathers wrote the Pledge of Allegiance (2008)
September 1st, 2008

In a 2006 questionnaire sent to Alaskan gubernatorial candidates, Sarah Palin answered a question .. From Eagle Forum Alaska:

11. Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

Sarah Palin: “Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me ...”

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by a man named Francis Bellamy ... The phrase “Under God” was not added to the Pledge of Allegiance until 1954 ...

3. George Wallace was a smart man
A racist and a demagogue, yes, but 1000X smarter than Palin.

4. I'm going to be counter-cultural and say she didn't give the worst answer--
Mika Brzezinski said "Lincoln"--now, that is stupid. He's years and years post-founding, and even recalls that its "four score and seven years" from the founding in the Gettysburg Address.

When Sarah responded by equivocation by talking about the "diversity" of the Founders, she was basically stalling for time. European white dudes aren't necessarily a diverse group, even though in 16-1700 terms, the sublte differences between Baptist and Methodist might have meant a holy war. When she lit upon the name : George Washington, she might have been just marking her own presidential ambitions, but the way she describes what Washington did is actually non-stupid.

Washington was a great statesman. He fought for the Republic, but turned down being a king. In that way, he returned the power to the people by not permitting a monarchy. Also, after his two terms, he did return to Mount Vernon to again be a gentleman farmer--as was the conceit of the Founders. They were all stuck on Republican Rome--and the ideal of "Cinncinatus, returned to his plow".

I think it was accidental at best. My favorite founder would be Thomas Paine.

This would not be an acceptable hero among Sarah fans, owing to his deism and so on.

I think, if Palin even knew from a number of founders, she had to pick a safe one. George Washington was safe.

5. My favorite was Josiah Bartlett, distant cousin of our GREAT President Jebidiah Bartlett.
OK I am a little biased. The Bartlett White House was just down the street... in Burbank. Josiah was from New Hampshire and one of the smaller signatures on the Declaration of Independence.

6. I think Sarah is really, really losing it.
Check this out: http://theimmoralminority.blogspot.com/

Sarah Palin so paranoid that she thought Glenn Beck, who "wrote soft porn for her the night before" was going to use gotcha questions.

(partial transcript)

BECK: She said, ‘I’m just preparing now.’ And I said, ‘What do you mean?’ And she held up her BlackBerry, and she said, ‘Oh I, I’m wondering why you have me here at the Statue of Liberty.’ And I said, ‘Cause it’s a symbol of trust.’ … And she said, ‘So you’re not going to ask me about the 25 windows?’ And I said, ‘The 25 windows? What are you talking about the 25 windows?’ She said, ‘The 25 windows, come on, don’t play with me. 25 windows, they stand for the different minerals.’ And I said, ‘You could be making that up right now, I have no idea.’ <...>

And she said, ‘So the seven points?’ And I said, ‘What points?’ She said, ‘The ones on her head. You know the crown.’ … And I said, ‘No, we’re not going down that road.’ And she just looked at me like, ‘Um hm.’

And I turned around and I walked out for a minute and I come back and she’s still Googling. Now she’s googling, now she’s googling Ellis Island. Her shields were so high.

I foresee a meltdown of epic proportions.

9. Why?
I don't understand why the whole country loves her so much. Being smart and beautiful doesn't mean she'll be good when she gets inn the whitehouse.

Sorry, but I didn't see any "terror in her eyes". She may have taken the easy route, but you're making too much of this.

loving this vid. Thanks for sharing!

Beck is like "Bullshit, tell me one" and she stumbles along about how diverse the Founding Fathers were... then he says, "you don't have an opinion" and she says, "NO.". LOL!!

14. Actually, if you look at the clip, she was making one of her talking points
Which was that Obama is acting like a king and the George Washington rejected that. It's sort of dishonest to say that she just said 'All of Them' because a few seconds after she says that 'of course George Washington has to rise to the top'. She might be a not too bright tool, but she wasn't a deer in the headlights on this one.
