Boy, ya never know where them right-wing nutbags are gonna turn up next!
Alice wants to do an MFA in creative writing, and in looking for books on such programs, she found that there don't seem to be any. This led her to the idea that maybe she ought to write one, so we hied over to B&N to see what publishers put out such books. The only one I saw amidst all the Raise Your SAT Score 100 Points titles was from an outfit called ISI Books. Go here:
http://www.isi.org/about_isi.html
where you'll find that they're non-profit, tax-exempt, and non-partisan. And that they have entire lines of books about conservative thought and conservative doctrines, including a discount line of right-wing closeouts, including the completely non-partisan works of, say, Clarence Thomas. This, I'm thinking, is a definition of non-partisan that I haven't encountered before. Anybody up for trying to get these clowns' tax-exempt status taken away?

2. On second thought, I was just being an idiot
You can push a given political orientation and be tax-exempt. (Many think that Brookings is the all-liberal version of this, for example.) You just can't give money to actual candidates.

Still, it sure seems creepy, doesn't it?

3. Who reads these books?
This made me laugh:

"including the completely non-partisan works of, say, Clarence Thomas. "

One can only wonder what inspiration might stem from reading his thoughts.

I would have it next to the collected works of Dan Quayle.

4. Well, their author search didn't turn up any of Quayle's fine books
Then again, it didn't turn up Clarence Thomas either, and yet here he is: http://www.isi.org/books/bookdetail.aspx?id=649cf8b5-87e4-4ba9-a475-21a52d36039c
