My Uncle Paul...
My Uncle Paul (Not his real name) was a lifelong Republican. We fell into a discussion about politics one day, and he told me his expectations about his political party. I am grateful that he didn't live to see the mess that the incumbent is making in Washington or the other mess that Dubya's successor is making in Austin.

"I support my party," said Uncle Paul. "I vote for my party," he went on. "I give money to my party.

"But it doesn't mean that I think they're honest or competent," he finished.

3. there's something wrong when politics starts sounding like pro sports
boosterism.

My family does this with the Cubs, Ball State, Perdue, and the Indy.

But never with politics.

Sorry, Vogon. Have you tried reading him your poetry until he promises to stop? *grin*

4. Kinda reminds me of a John Prine lyric
" Voted for Eisenhower 'cause Lincoln won the war "
Even if reality does not map to the fantasy in someone's mind.
