Daily U.S. Casualities 6/3/2004
As of Wednesday, 810 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq in March 2003, according to the Defense Department. Of those, 594 died as a result of hostile action and 216 died of nonhostile causes.
The British military has reported 58 deaths; Italy, 18; Spain, eight; Bulgaria, six; Ukraine, four; Poland, three; Thailand, two; Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia and the Netherlands have reported one each.
Since May 1, 2003, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 672 U.S. soldiers have died -- 485 as a result of hostile action and 187 of nonhostile causes, according to the military's numbers as of Wednesday.
Since the start of military operations, 4,882 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department's weekly tally.
No new deaths were reported by the U.S. Central Command. The latest identifications reported by the Pentagon:
Army Pfc. Markus J. Johnson, 20, Springfield, Mass., died Tuesday in Anbar province, Iraq, in a vehicle accident; assigned to D Battery, 4th Battalion, 3rd Air Defense Artillery, 1st Infantry Division, Kitzingen, Germany.
Army Capt. Robert C. Scheetz Jr., 31, Dothan, Ala., died Sunday in Musayyib, Iraq, when his vehicle hit an explosive; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, Baumholder, Germany.
Marine Lance Cpl. Dustin L. Sides, 22, Yakima, Wash., died Monday from hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq; assigned to 9th Communications Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Marine Pfc. Cody S. Calavan, 19, Lake Stevens, Wash., died Saturday from hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Marine Lance Cpl. Rafael Reynosasuarez, 28, Santa Ana, Calif., died Saturday from hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Marine Cpl. Dominique J. Nicolas, 25, Maricopa, Ariz., died May 26 from hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq; assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Army Pfc. Nicholaus E. Zimmer, 20, of Columbus, Ohio, died Sunday in Kufa, Iraq, when his vehicle came under attack by rocket-propelled grenades; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedburg, Germany.
Army Sgt. Aaron C. Elandt, 23, Lowell, Mich., died Sunday in Al Musayyib, Iraq, when his vehicle hit an explosive; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.
Army Pvt. Bradli N. Coleman, 19, Ford City, Pa., died Sunday in Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries sustained in Mosul when mortar rounds hit his living quarters; assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.
Army Spc. Charles E. Odums II, 22, Sandusky, Ohio, died Sunday in Baghdad, Iraq, when his military convoy hit an explosive; assigned to Headquarters, Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Ft. Hood, Texas.
Army 1st Lt. Kenneth Michael Ballard, 26, Mountain View, Calif., died Sunday in Najaf, Iraq, during a firefight with insurgents; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedburg, Germany.
