Mr. Sanders,

I just found your site and I wanted to make a general comment to you, so I picked any forum. I hope this is okay. I find it admirable that you're trying to take the Republican party back from the nutcase right wing theocrats. But I also think it's lost cause. Your party has left you. It's just a matter of time until you realize it.

The GOP was once a reasonable party. It this were the 1950's, I would be an Eisenhower Republican. However, this being 2004, I don't have that choice; I can either be a Pat Robertson Republican or a Democrat. I've chosen the latter. The party is in the hands of the Christian Coalition now, and they want nothing less than a theocracy.

There is a new name for moderate Republicans like you: they're called "Democrats." Come on, Bill Clinton was pro-death penalty, pro-welfare reform and pro-balenced budgets. He'd be a Republican in the pre-Reagan days. Come on over, and bring John McCain, too!

Sincerely, Frank

I wouldn't really be an Eisenhower Republican, but I just wanted to make a point.

5. You are not alone in that.
Massive doses of vitriol are hard to take, especially if, like me, you are not as well armored with your own facts as you would like to be.

Many well known, and effective people, are still unwilling to stare into the hatred of the other side. I recently read in the Utne reader that Tony Kushner has never googled himself because he doesn't want to come across a right wing site devoted to trashing him. (paraphrase) So, you're not alone.

But we, liberals, do need to get better at facing the RW onslaught. Regular practice helps...

6. The site rather confused me...I expected...well nasty Dem bashing..
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 09:42 PM by myday38
I didn't really see that although it still maybe there
and I just overlooked it. I was please that they were somewhat
open mind about some issues. I really didn't expect the Bush criticism either.
Somehow, though they truly do seem more like they are Democrats than the a-typical Republican that I have seen is recent years.

It's almost like the twilight zone...very weird.

If all Repubs were this open minded, I just might get along with them
a little better.
Or I could just be coming down with something:crazy:

7. The site used to be called Republicans for Dean
Started by a blogger who wanted to convince fellow moderate republicans why it made more sense to support Dean, a fiscal conservative, over someone like Bush, whose administration has given us the biggest government of all time. It changed to The Moderate Republican after Dean dropped out.

8. Pretty cool site.
I think Mr. Saunders represents the Jim Jeffords-Lincoln Chaffee wing of the Republican Party that was abandoned years ago.
