Daily U.S. Casulties 6/30/2004

As of Tuesday, 853 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq last year, according to the Defense Department. Of those, 632 died as a result of hostile action and 221 died of nonhostile causes.

The British military has reported 59 deaths; Italy, 18; Spain, eight; Bulgaria and Poland, six each; Ukraine, four; Slovakia, three; Thailand, two; Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia and the Netherlands have reported one each.

Since May 1, 2003, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 715 U.S. soldiers have died -- 523 as a result of hostile action and 192 of nonhostile causes.

The latest deaths reported by the military:

A roadside bomb struck a military convoy in southeast Baghdad on Tuesday, killing three U.S. Marines.

No new identifications were reported by the military.

1. Meanwhile .....
the Iraqi Body Count is, probably, somewhere between 9451 and 13333 deaths (or about 10 iraqi's killed for each "Coalition" death).

Again only specific numbers for our casualities, we're neither interested in, nor care about the number of casualities on *their* side (whether they're Vietnamese, Palestinian, Iraqi or Sudanese).

2. Does the British # seem low?
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 11:21 AM by Lady Texan
Is it just me, or does it seem like there should be more than 59 for the Brits?
Do they do "creative counting" like our Pentagon, or is that the true #?
