When Bush came to Pensacola, my whole street was blocked off with the low metal gates used during parades. As his motorcade came rushing down the street, another neighbor and I flipped him the bird as he was in the front of the bus waving like a big moron. That gesture is a lot easier for him to understand and catch while speeding past than most signs are. One needn't be intelligent to misread that message.
Oh and I know how you feel about all that. We had it, too. Everyone here also was ordered to get their vehicles off the parking zone sides of the street. (We don't exactly have our own parking lots and driveways. We're downtown.) Nobody was forewarned that he was coming down the street. The barricades were put in place after sunset the night before.
