Journal.
Remember the scandal where the House Bank allowed a bunch of Representatives write bad checks without charging them?
Here's a LTTE that caught my eye in the March 25, 1992 Voice of the People in the Akron Beacon Journal.
"Balance checkbook first, then ask for more money.
So Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney is furious that the House bank did not notify him of his overdrawn checks when he served as a congressman: such nauseating self-riteousness.
Doesn't his checkbook have a register for recording expenditures? I certainly know when I am overdrawn without the bank telling me so. I think most of our lawmakers believe as long as there are checks in the checkbook, it's OK to keep cashing them.
We had better take a good, hard look the next time Cheney comes with requests for a few more billions (trillions) for defense. Just remember: This is the man who can't balance his own checkbook. Indeed, it may be time to thrwo the rascals out."
I love libraries. And microfilm.
