Daily U.S. Casualties 9/16/2004
As of Wednesday, 1,019 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq campaign in March 2003, according to the Defense Department. Of those, 769 died as a result of hostile action and 250 died of nonhostile causes. The figures include three military civilians.
The British military has reported 65 deaths; Italy, 19; Poland, 13; Spain, 11; Bulgaria, six; Ukraine, eight; Slovakia, three; Thailand, two; the Netherlands, two; and Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Hungary and Latvia have reported one death each.
Since May 1, 2003, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 881 U.S. military members have died -- 660 as a result of hostile action and 221 of nonhostile causes, according to the military's numbers Wednesday.
The latest deaths reported by the military:
One Marine was killed in action Tuesday in Anbar province.
One Marine died of wounds sustained in action Wednesday in Anbar province.
One U.S. soldier was killed Wednesday by a car bomb south of Baghdad.

Army Spc. Michael A. Martinez, 29, Juan Diaz, Puerto Rico; died Sept. 8 in a vehicle accident in Baqubah, Iraq; assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Field Artillery, Bamberg, Germany.
Army Spc. Edgar P. Daclan Jr., 24, Cypress, Calif.; killed by an explosive Friday in Balad; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.
Marine Lance Cpl. Dominic C. Brown, 19, Austin, Texas; died Monday in a non-hostile incident in Anbar province; assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Marine Lance Cpl. Michael J. Halal, 22, Glendale, Ariz.; died Monday in a non-hostile vehicle accident in Anbar province; assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Army Staff Sgt. Guy S. Hagy Jr., 31, Lodi, Calif.; killed by an explosive Monday in Baghdad; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
Army Sgt. Carl Thomas, 29, Phoenix; killed by an explosive Monday in Baghdad; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
